It's been a while since I was at the lighthouse on Anclote Key. The visit that sticks in my mind is one from many years ago when some friends and I camped on the island and explored the lighthouse. Keep in mind this was before it was restored to the beautiful landmark it is today. Back then it was just another island with a old light and some old buildings. But now it's so much more than that. Its something that we can'all be very proud of. The time and hard work, not to mention donations, have given back the dignity which was lost to progress and lack of interest. There are quite a few records that are available to read and you'd be surprised of the history that's attached to it. I thought I knew a lot about Anclote Key and the lighthouse but I was wrong. There's so much I didn't know. But I'm sure glad I took the Time to find out. This is definitely a place to see if you're in the area and curious about local history. Enjoy it!!

Great natural park. We took our boat over but cattle boats are available from the sponge docks in Tarpon Springs. The shuttle boats drop you on the north end of the island. I think you can walk to the lighthouse from there but it's a long walk.
