This was a last minute stop on our way to our campground. We had grabbed some sandwiches and were looking for a quiet place to eat. Got a small discount for both of us being over 60 and everything was very nice until I mentioned being disabled and having a Service Animal. Noticeable change in demeanor of the lady who was helping us. Didn't think anything about it, so we parked and grabbed our stuff and my Service Animal and started towards the picnic table when a male employee stopped us and said the "DOG COULDN'T COME IN". Explained he was a Service Animal to which he replied "DO YOU HAVE PAPERS"? Apparently, the day before someone had a Comfort Animal and there were problems. Type of stuff we face all the time and an argument my wife loves to have. She explained clearly the difference, my animal's training and responsibility and said at anytime he was disruptive they could ask us to leave and we would. She was polite yet firm and the interaction was in a low key calm voice. I think the gentleman may have regretted his aggressive behavior because we had no further discussion. We had lunch then toured the grounds and to be honest had a nice time. It was during the week so no interaction etc., was ongoing. We were told they had events planned for the weekend to include live music. This facility is also a new member of Harvest Host. Given the opportunity we would return and...
Read moreWent for a field trip for my daughter in 2nd grade and it was just as much fun now as it was when I went as a kid. We went before Christmas and it was a Christmas from around the world theme. It was fun making crafts with the kids and educational for them at the same time. They all really enjoyed it. I also love to come here during the fall festival. Lots of local craft vendors, unique antiques, Native American items and custom woodworkers. The blacksmith is a must stop, so neat! I've never been during the week myself. Only on field trips as a kid, now a parent and during the fall festival. I've heard they do tours at all times though. I have items all around my house that we've picked up over the years. Also the corn on the cob in the back, yesssssss! Even if you don't like corn normally, try It! This place is special and necessary in today's busy world of technology. It makes my heart smile to see it still doing it's part on keeping children and us all mindful of...
Read moreExperienced the settlement via a field trip with my kids’ class. It’s hard to give more than 2 stars as there isn’t anything spectacular “to write home about.” In my opinion the kids deserved more time there.
The kids were most excited about the gift shop, but it was closed due to a staff meeting. Over 100 people with more than half looking to spend money in the gift shop. Realizing this is a non-profit and the rebuttal to every complaint is that there is hardly no funding and only volunteers make this place happen I would ensure that if there was only one volunteer they would be placed in the gift shop. Especially during field trips. I’m a room parent and all of our 20 kids had money to spend. And all 20 went home with it in...
