Wasn't that great, the young lady who greeted us was helpful and even let us pick out our kayaks. Then insulted me by telling me that the weight limit on they kayaks was 240 lbs and she wasn't sure the kayak I selected would work for me. We have been kayaking for several years now and never once had any problems with this, we have even had to put 2 people in our personal kayaks (rescuing friends). But all that aside we just wanted to spend a beautiful day paddling a new river in a new state. With the 5 of us ready we asked to go on the peacock bridge trip. BUT we couldn't do this trip, it was before noon when we arrived but we were told we had to arrive by 10:30 am for the 14 mile / 6 hour trip per the website. Having called 2 days before our trip, for information and to see if we needed to make a reservation. The guy I spoke with (Mike the owner) said nothing about this time limit or arriving before 10:30 am for us to paddle peacock bridge.. All in all the river was nice, the weather was prefect and we had a good time as our group always does. But we wouldn't recommend Bear Paw to anyone we like. For the almost $200 we paid for a 3 hour kayaking trip we feel ripped off. Not to be mean but the canoe livery(s) we have use in other states ie. up north are much warmer and very welcoming. Thanks for the adventure we would love to do it again just not...
Read moreWe rented a two person Wow tube for a float down the creek and river. I wish it was possible to make online reservations but with a bit of planning, a great trip was had. We drove from Pensacola and arrived at Bear Paw at 9am. After completing waivers, we paid and waited just a few minutes for the shuttle. The shuttle ride was a short 10 minute ride to another Bear Paw location. We were given our raft and paddle and began floating in Spring Creek. The water was clear and the atmosphere was so serene and enjoyable. After a few miles, the creek and our float transitioned to Chipola River. The river is wide, which continued our serene float. There was an abundance of turtles on the banks nearby and a new with an occasional fish floating by. Along our float, there wasn't sandbars to stop at but it truly is a pleasant float. The river water is cooler and less clear than the creek but understandably so as the river water is much deeper. Towards the end of the float, we floated under the I10 bridges. Since the river is wide, there was plenty of room for our raft and the occasional boater to pass. From the point of I10, we paddled towards the right side of the river as instructed. About ten minutes later, we approached the Bear Paw landing. Someone helped us off the float and that was the end of our trip. It was so enjoyable. I really cannot wait...
Read moreBACTERIAL OVERGROWTH IN WATER.
Hey guys this is NOT a reflection on the company however I just wanted to put in a public space that a very close friend of mine went swimming in bear paw recently and got a pretty significant bacterial infection of the eyes that traveled to her sinuses and she is still fighting the infection weeks after the fact. She is making a recovery. It doesn’t seem to be a flesh eating bacteria THANKFULLY but still the company and the county needs to do something about this. Again it’s not a review on the company but I wanted to put it out in a public space so no one else gets hurt and most importantly other people and the company can INVESTIGATE whats going on with our water and disclose whether or not the water is SAFE that includes data collection methodologies. Also to be honest I would want someone to share this kind of information if I were considering going on a vacation somewhere. Please call and inquire with the company prior to swimming to see how we can work together to make sure our waters are safe and let’s look out for each other....
