It's no secret that this 560-acre, multi-use park was known as Dyer Boulevard Landfill until the end of the 1980s. And that's a good thing, frankly, because it shows just how well we can transform the world around us for the better, if we so choose.
One of the chief features of the park, and the dead giveaway that it was once a municipal dump, is the huge plateau of a hill in the midst of the park's center. This is Southern Florida after all and natural elevations like this just don't exist. Find one and it was likely a landfill.
But there is so much more to the park, as well. There are baseball and softball fields (one of each), a handful of soccer fields, 4 basketball courts, walking and bicycling paths, mountain-biking trails, a party pavilion, picnic areas complete with BBQ grills and a playground for the kids.
Just keep in mind that much of the park is wide open and that it could benefit from more trees for shade and visual appeal. As I said before, this is Southern Florida. That means it can get awfully hot and sunny here so you'll need to figure out creative ways to stay in the shade.
Other than that, it's a great park. R.C. Bush Pilots mini airport and Winding Waters Natural Area are both adjacent and really help fill out a fun day for the...
Read moreThis is a great multi-use park. In my younger days I used to help maintain these trails. There are multiple paved and unpaved trails of varying difficulty. There are also soccer fields, baseball fields, basketball court, and playground. On the south side of the park is an airfield for model airplanes and a golf training camp for kids. This park is built on a retired landfill and is a great example of recycling. There are other activities that can be done here; mountain biking, Geocaching, hiking, and trail walking just to name a few. I will suggest that like any park, do not leave valuables exposed in your car. Lock anything that looks to be valuable in your trunk or hidden away. In all the years I have come here I have never had an issue, but have friends who have. All of them left items of value laying on the...
Read moreBest park in the area specially if you fly rc airplanes and drones and even if you don't bring your kids along and have them watch from the spectating area. You need a membership with ama (American model aircraft association) in order to fly at the air field but that only cost $20-$40 a year and lets you fly at all they're airfields around the world (there's a lot) and I didn't realize how many air fields and parks they were in till I joined it's actually amazing the infrastructure that's set up for kids to learn rc air plane and drone or multirotor hobby sort of stuff I applaud the association and the county for a good job keeping this park nice and clean and welcoming. There's all sorts of other stuff to do from bike trails to nature trails...
