Hi! My names Andrea, today my younger sister competed in the worlds competitive cheer competition. I use to cheer myself, and have attended this competition on multiple occasions. I do understand due to COVID policies have been changed and I acknowledge and accept that. But today I had no intentions or plans on being at my sisters cheer competition, but she has severe asthma and after competing she was having difficulties breathing. So I made the 30 minute drive to espn sports of Disney to rush my sister her inhaler that she had forgotten earlier that day. Now mind you I had no intentions on coming today, so I didn’t not purchase a ticket. I knew they wouldn’t allow me in so I thought on my feet, got out of my car and ran to the outside of the orange gates at the end of the parking lot to give my little sister her inhaler. Like said before I understand the COVID policy but while trying to walk up to the gate where no one was currently present I had a female employee come yell at me and insist I leave immediately for not having a mask on, I explained to her the situation and let her know that I was waiting outside the event for my sisters friend to come get her inhaler from me and that’s is be there no longer than 5 minutes. And that’s when this female employee actually had the audacity to tell me that “it doesn’t matter the situation that a mask is required”. And again I totally get it but quite frankly I don’t think my 16 year old sisters LIFE is worth one person not wearing a mask. Being that these policies were put in place to protect people Im confused on why they had no remorse for the fact that my sister could have ended up in the hospital. Not to mention I figured since these people work with many people in the sports industry that they would realize how important something can be when it comes down to medical problems. I was highly dissatisfied with the way the employees treated me while I stood in the parking lot. She spoke to me like I was incompetent and threatened to have me removed from the scene before I could even give my sister her inhaler. This is day 2 of worlds competition and not many of the employees were nice on the first day either as I was told. I would speak to your employees before someone has to contact HR and I’d hate for Disney to have a lawsuit over a little girl having an asthma attack because their employees don’t care enough to help. I didn’t have time to look at the name of this employee due to the medical emergency I was having w my sister but she was most likely of Hispanic decent, had darker hair and stood at the area to monitor the exit. She had the never to actually leave position and follow me and I felt to the point as I was being harassed. Worst Disney sports experience...
Read moreThe facility is very nice , but not handicap friendly at all. You can rent a wheelchair in the ESPN Clubhouse Shop at guest services, but getting around in it is a task in itself. The complex is constructed on a hill and the upper tier is where the parking lots are, and also the merchandise shops and the large arenas. Down the hill are the baseball diamonds, soccer fields, track and field area and tennis complex. If you are headed for the open fields, be advised that you may have to use the wheelchair ramp, which is a winding ramp at the side of the large staircase connecting the upper and lower tiers. The ramp is ok going down the hill. But do remember that what goes down the hill will eventually have to go back up the hill to get out of the complex and back to your car. Make sure you have a strong companion willing to push your wheelchair up a hefty hill.
I will mention that I know the HP Field House has an elevator. The lower level is where the sports fields are and the upper level is where the shops and parking lots are. To gain entrance to this building you will have to purchase a ticket for the event being held there. No ticket, no access. No access no elevator. And up the ramp you go! (These facts I know from personal experience). There are elevators in other buildings as well, although I don't know if they are and under what circumstances would be accessible to the public.
SHAME, SHAME, SHAME on Walt Disney World and ESPN Wide World of Sports for the misfortune of being so handicap inaccessible in an international sports facility that so many senior citizens would love to visit and watch a grandchild compete, or an injured athlete on crutches come to support their teammates. Well WDW and ESPN get the picture. At least I hope they do.
If you have difficulty walking your way around this complex, just stay home. Believe me, frustration runs rampant and everyone who you think could be of some...
Read moreWhat an absolutely horrible experience. I went with my wife to this complex (while on our honeymoon while visiting the four disneyworld parks, which had a lot better customer service, but i guess how we were treated even if they called us ugly and fat at those other locations it STILL would have been better than this joke of a place).
I am a HUGE sports fan. It is part of me. Any time I go on an adventure with my wife, I get excited if there are any opportunities for going to prominent or historical sites on top of standard major venues. I was very much looking forward to coming here, as the AdventHealth Arena was where the 2020 NBA Finals were held, as part of the 2020 NBA bubble due to COVID 19.
When we got out of our Lyft we had some older security guard who probably hates his job crossing his arms and IMMEDIATELY saying "DO YOU HAVE PASSES?!". I said uh no I just want to take some pictures. Guy who hates his job said "YOU NEED TO LEAVE NOW!!". Luckily our Lyft was still there and went out of there to Disney Springs.
Got some grainy pictures as we were departing. Who knows what would have happened if the Lyft driver already left us.
So the security guard clearly hates his job and doesn't know how public property works. There are no gates the way we came, no other security attendants, nor no trespassing signs. So let me get this straight, somebody WHO FREAKING LOVES SPORTS can't go to the FREAKING ESPN WIDE WORLD OF SPORTS?!
Somebody should either train or fire that guy. Jokes on him im having a blast in spite of him on my honeymoon AND STILL got some pics of the arena. Ha!!
Do...
