My wife and I live about 20 minutes away and love visiting Guana. The dam has a beautiful trail to walk and we frequently bring the kayaks down and have explored both above and below the dam. I usually bring my poles to fish as well.
There are multiple beach pull offs along the way if you want to hit the beach before or after and the area is much less crowded than beaches in northern Jax. There is a $3 entrance fee for the park, which is more than worth it and good for the day at all beach locations. There is no one at a booth, just a drop an envelope in a box honor system so bring cash.
Also, make sure you bring bug spray. During some times of the year bugs can be annoying but spray tends to keep them off well.
Highly recommend visiting this beautiful park for all who enjoy...

The trails are color coded, usually have maps at every intersection, and the benches are painted to match the trail color! Clean facilities and plenty of trash cans. There is a large boat launch, kayak rentals, and plenty of places to fish. The trails close at sundown but the dam stays open late for fishing. I didn't investigate but I believe there is an education...

There are manatees in the water and an educational center there too.
The restrooms...
