Update:5/9/2023 Still a nice little spot to stop and enjoy the birds, Terns, gulls, ibis, herons ... Lately, there has been a lot of construction in the neighborhood and the birds are not as plentiful as they have been in the past. the seawall around the boat basin is unstable and there is now a fence around it. Still just the one bench, to sit on and watch the basin ... Always seem to be a few people stopping by to look for manatees. The manatees stop by in spring and fall . In the spring, they are making babies, lots of rolling around in the water, can't see them below the waterline, but they can be seen having fun in the spring, splashing around. 4 or 5 couples were there last time I saw them. I think it was the 4th of May... Just there a few days each season, a bit of a treat when they are there. Ospreys nest in the trees to the east of the basin, so you can see them too !
10/21/2018 This is a little 'pocket' park. Tiny, one bench to sit on, a pond of sorts that you don't swim in but you can net shiners sometimes. There's a private docking area, but it's private to the neighborhood pretty much. Like it's in my deed for my property that I have rights to dock there, otherwise there's a waiting list I think. Your boat has to be small enough to get under the bridge too . People come to this little spot to see manatees sometimes, they're passing through right now, saw some today, 10/21/18. As it gets cold they will end up at TECO in the power plant pools cause that water is warm in the winter. You can walk around the boat basin, usually some herons and egrets, pelicans, cormorants, maybe terns and gulls diving for fish. Some days more than others. I live very close so visit often. Yesterday there were quite a few Downy and Red-bellied woodpeckers, several Osprey, a Belted Kingfisher, a Great Egret, Great Blue Heron, and a Little Blue Heron too. If you just want to be quiet and sit, you will start to notice the wildlife. Little parking lot, for a few cars, trash can, sign about not feeding the manatees and no...
Read moreWe found this place when looking for an out of the way neighborhood to ride bikes while on vacation. We saw manatees the first year we came and have seen them every time since then. The water is typically murky so you don't always get the best photo ops. This year we saw a cow and calf heading in from Palma Sola Bay to the fresh water that comes down the creek. View from the bridge...
Read moreSo this is a very small park inside a nice neighborhood. If you would like to see a Manatee, this is a place to visit for free.. I've never been disappointed coming here and today a friendly one swam up to us where we were standing . This guy turned on his side several times for a long period of time. If you want to be nice to them, bring some lettuce or cabbage. They like...
