Sandspur Beach was a lovely find! We visited at the end of May and the water was warm (warmest I've experienced in the USA, because I'm from Massachusetts) and inviting — plus it was pretty empty, which made it even better. There was plenty of parking available for a small fee.
The sand was soft and pleasant to walk on. The only minor issue was some seaweed near the shore, but that clears up once you go a little deeper into the water. Restrooms were available, though they closed about an hour before the park itself, so plan accordingly.

Read moreThis beach is closed this year due to recovery of hurricane. The other beaches are nice but a little crowded but that shouldn’t stop you from enjoying the shallow waters with your kids. Facilities are well kept and easy to access even for wheelchairs. Some of the bad reviews might have been partly subjective. We had a great time my kids loved it. I would say to avoid maybe the weekends. We visited during the week and had no parking issues. We will return and hope that Sandspur beach is open next year. I grew up on this beach, it reopened mother's day weekend 2022 after 5 yrs of renovation post Irma. Nice New Camp Sites, New bathrooms and warm showers that work well. Lots of parking and less crowded, better side for snorkeling and kayaks and paddle boarding or beach walking.
