A week ago I booked a tee time on Friday the 10th at 12:04pm. Since that date is being observed as Veteran’s day, I knew the morning would be pretty crowded so I booked a little later than I normally would in the hopes that the course would thin out a bit. Unbeknownst to me, course management allowed two separate leagues to book in the morning. When I got to the course shortly after 11:00am, after paying, I was told by the starter that they wouldn’t be able to get my party out on time. When I asked why, I was told that the leagues were at least 1.5 hours behind the pace and that nobody was being allowed out until the leagues made the turn after which, 4 or 5 groups of 4, which were waiting to tee off, would then be allowed to go. Only after all that would I be allowed to tee off. I asked if a Marshall was out keeping the pace and they said that one had only just gone out. Poor planning and poor time management. I wouldn’t be as upset if this wasn’t a somewhat regular problem with this course allowing leagues or anyone for that matter, to slow play. On a positive note, over the past few years the condition of the course has improved. Unfortunately, I rarely want to play there as my average round takes a lot longer than it should. I’ve been playing on the course off and on for almost 30 years and consider it to be my home course. I sure hope they can do something to remedy...
Read moreHidden within the scenic Savannahs Golf Course on Merritt Island is a dining experience that took me completely by surprise. What started as a casual stop turned into a full-on foodie delight.
Let’s talk about the burger first—absolutely spot-on. Perfectly juicy with a rich, savory flavor, and topped with fresh ingredients that made each bite a standout. The fries? Next-level crispy, golden perfection. They weren’t just a side; they were a star in their own right.
To wash it all down, I opted for a fruit-forward Big Dog Kombucha, and wow—it was refreshingly bright, slightly tart, and packed with layers of flavor that complemented the meal beautifully.
And the pièce de résistance? Root A1A Kava Ice Cream. Creamy, velvety, and subtly earthy from the kava, it was the ideal way to finish this flavor-packed experience. The perfect blend of indulgence and relaxation in one bite.
Whether you’re hitting the greens or just in the mood for a seriously good meal, Savannahs Golf Course has something special waiting for you. Elevated comfort food, unique beverages, and a scenic backdrop—this place...
Read moreThe Savannah's Golf Course is located on North Merritt Island and has a long history as part of a neighborhood development hosting a sometimes troubled golf coarse.
Originally developed in the late 1980's the Savannah's struggled to keep afloat during the Savings & Loan crisis and was mired in design problems with low swampy, damp greens and substandard coarse maintenance which has been worked on steadily since it's founding developers started.
Many of the problems with the coarse have been rectified and solved over the years, but mosquitos and water have been an ongoing problem since the beginning. Once an orange grove prior to development, the Savannah's was born from local investors and engineering firms looking to cash in on the population explosion of the 60's and 70's, but poor planning and the economy seemed to haunt this project for several decades and two major economic slumps.
Years into this golf coarse development has deepened it's foothold as a "fine" coarse for locals and...
