My husband and I just went for a walk at this trail and we enjoyed it. It was our first time here and due to reviews being very old,We were not sure what to expect. We have been trying to explore all the walking trails Tampa offers and we have now added this to our list. There is ample free parking, which is nice. If you have kids, there is a small little playground area and a little dock for fishing with public bathrooms. There is also a basketball court. After parking, we walked towards the map and the marked trail. We,Not long into our walk, started to see two colors. One green trail and one red trail. Both heading in separate directions. We decided on the green trail. This trail for us was very marked. There was either a sign showing the color green or signs with arrows keeping you on the hiking spree trail. From our car back to our car was 1.5 miles so we decided to walk it twice to equal 3 miles. Throughout the green trail there were Quite a few unmarked trails to walk down and explore, but we didn’t know where they would lead to so we decided to stay on the green marked trail. We will be going back to explore the red trail next time. When you drive into this park/walking trails there are so many trails that are unmarked and look accessible to walk in so we are curious to find out more about them. There are so little reviews about this park so I hope this review helps people wondering if this is a good place to explore. Like other reviews have stated there are areas that are heavy with sand, but this is very similar to other trails. We have been on in Tampa. Adds a little more difficulty to the walk, which we really like. The reason I’m giving four stars is because a lot of the trails are unmarked and for people who like to track how long our walks are, it would be nice to have more information on all the cut through’s and walking trails they offer. Also, dogs are allowed at this trail and Dog owners are not picking up after their dogs poop so you see a lot of dog poop in the middle of the walking trail, which is super annoying! Watch where you walk! And dog owners please be considerate and pick up after your dogs no one wants to step in your dogs poop cause you’re too lazy...
Read moreI recently visited Stephen J Wortham Park, and it has quickly become one of my favorite spots to unwind and enjoy the great outdoors. This beautiful and peaceful park offers a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in nature.
One of the first things you'll appreciate about Stephen J Wortham Park is the ample parking available, making it convenient to visit without the hassle of finding a spot. This thoughtful detail sets the tone for a stress-free outing right from the start.
The park features a nice playground that is perfect for children, providing a safe and fun environment for them to play and explore. The well-maintained basketball court is another great amenity, offering a space for both casual games and more serious practice sessions.
As someone who enjoys flying drones, Stephen J Wortham Park is an absolute delight. The expansive grounds and diverse natural scenery provide plenty of opportunities to capture stunning aerial footage. From lush greenery to serene water features, the park is a treasure trove of visual beauty just waiting to be explored.
Stephen J Wortham Park is a fantastic destination for anyone looking to enjoy nature, engage in recreational activities, or simply relax in a tranquil setting. Whether you're visiting with family, friends, or on your own, this park offers something for everyone. I highly recommend it for your next...
Read moreThe playground is decent and well-maintained, as is the area around it. But, honestly, Lettuce Lake Park this is not. The "bridge" on one of trails needs rehab, and paths east of the playground become swampy and impassibly flooded after a rain.
The other thing that bothered me was the remote nature of the place.
Sounds great at first, but as we left the other day, there was a guy in a hat and sunglasses at the far end of the parking lot just looking under the bumper of his Cadillac Eldorado that was backed neatly in a parking space. I asked him if he needed help, but he said he was fine despite his intense scrutiny of an area of the car where there is nothing mechanical/electrical except one fog light.
And then, not that far from him, was a Corolla backed into a narrow spot off the parking lot, in between two trees, just sitting there with its headlights on... a spot you cannot see when you're entering the park, only exiting.
Just too many people hanging out oddly too near a playground for my taste...but maybe we were there...
