Read moreI was not expecting this place to wow me.I grew up around gators and figured like other zoos you might spot a couple of big ones off in the distance. Ummm, buckle up buttercup! The entire place was amazing. Self guided tour that starts out with some enclosures with smallish young gators. This very quickly leads you to "The Swamp" where you are standing on the boardwalk looking down into my worst nightmare, no joke. They. Are. Everywhere! So many alligators just right there for a close up look and ready for you to throw the nuggets over the railing. I saw some of the biggest alligators I have ever seen in my almost 53 years. Spend the money on the nuggets if you can. They look similar to charcoal briquettes and you get a good bit for $22. Save them for the back of the park in the swamp. I would even suggest perhaps starting in the back so you have plenty to feed the big gators. Very safe and secure walk around the park. I never felt like anything was going to harm us. Wheelchair and stroller accessible. Good bit of shade along the boardwalk in the swamp as well as along the pathway in general. Bathrooms when you first go in and then more back by the snack area halfway-ish and just before you go into the swamp. You can take your time and there is a snack bar with snow cones and picnic tables to sit down and rest for a moment. Next to the snack bar is an area with some snakes, big lizards, tortoises, and you can even hold a small gator. They do two feeding shows and unfortunately we were too late for the first and didn't want to sit and wait an hour more for the second one but other guests told us it was educational and enjoyable. It's not far from Gulf Shores and is just north of Foley. This was such a great surprise and I would...
Read moreWhat an amazing visit to see alligators of all size in a natural habitat. They had hatchlings, to one-, two-, three-, four-, year olds. And after that they had the adults in the swamp, which ranged from 6ft to 13ft!
The staff is very informative and friendly which is awesome. They have 3 feeding times throughout the day: 11am, 1pm, and 4pm. At these times they have a team member feed the BIG alligators and patrons can watch from bleachers. They have a speaker system and have fun information through the display.
The property is on 160 acres of swamp. There are a few concrete pools that hold the younger gators. And in the swamp they have a boardwalk that you can go on that is probably about 1/4 to 1/3 of a mile long. It's elevated about 6 ft off the ground, and also caged in with fencing, so it's completely safe.
There is even a reptile area they had, although when we attended it was closed. So we didn't get to enjoy that, hopefully one day on a future return we can see what that holds.
Before you go that far, you can pickup food nuggets to throw to the gators at the entrance building. This is well worth the price because you get to see the gators swim after the food and it's quite a hoot. Once you get through watching these beasts in the swamp, you can return to the same entrance building and get cool alligator related apparel. :P
I've been to different Alligator Alleys in other states, and so far, this one is the best! They have a cool decorated welded front gate and signs. And even on the walk, they have a small room to stop and cool off in for hot days. You won't regret it.
(For my visit it cost $12 adult admission, and $4 food nuggets -...
