Been coming to this lake for 28 years and have lots of great memories. However, last 5 years seems it's been a down hill ride fast in terms of service and quality.
The park rangers are extremely present and seem to harass and give out petty parking tickets like its candy. they closed tons of parking spaces, on busy weekends you can spend 12$ to get in and drive around for 30 min with no parking because of all the signs, we decided to leave and ask for refund and toll both said no refunds because we were longer then 15 min. So we decided to go back in and found a truck backing out, took its place, one wheel was on dirt and got smacked with a parking ticket because its NON OHV parking!!.. What a joke!. The lake is hundreds of feet reassessed back and the lower larger parking lots are closed and we parked up top at 5% and got a ticket 75$.
To add to this day, these rangers are on Jetskis that are hard to tell if they are cops and they will roll up fast on you at the beach to harass you try to catch you if you are drinking and give you mean mugs like you are a criminal.
Badge 1799 drives around and just looks for people to screw like its his caffeine dosage.
I will still be coming to this lake but i definitely miss the earlier days.
Pointers : Rangers will harass for petty things, park in spots, don't come Fri,Sat,Sun. Come early in summer. Bring a rolling cart to haul your stuff to the beaches at 5%. Seen rattlesnakes be aware. bring tasty cold drinks. Lake is awesome but rangers can ruin your vibe, just read other...
Read moreI had just moved here to El Dorado Hills from a small town in Pennsylvania and I was looking for something to do during my time off from my new job. I asked the guests that would come into the Nugget, where I worked, and almost everyone had said that Folsom Lake was a safe and enjoyable place to hang out on a warm day. So I talked to my wife and son, they both said that they were interested in checking this place out. We pull up in our Chevy Traverse and walk the trail until we find a decent spot to set up. Once we did, we ate lunch while playing U2 on my UE Boom speakers I got for christmas. My son then asked if he could go into the water, I said yes, so he put on his little floaties and splashed into the water. But as soon as he got into deep water I see a fin break the surface of the water and in one big gulp a Great White Shark swallows my son whole. So that is why I have only given this lake a 3 star rating. Please mention the Great White Sharks in the description of the...
Read moreDidn't appreciate the park rangers harassing us. Saw them way too many times. It felt like they were stalking us the whole time we were there. They came up to our camp space to tell us we were being loud, but all we were doing was laughing and sitting by the campfire. One of the rangers said he smelled Marijuana as he was walking by, which we denied because we were not smoking pot. He came into our space with his K-9! He was so close, my friend who was sitting down on her chair felt the dogs breath on her neck. But just his whole demeanor was off. Total bad vibes. The female park ranger was rude as well. Definitely will not be going back here. Apart from it being dry, small spaces, the rangers definitely ruined our vibe. I guess go here with kids, Don't go here if you're young and trying to have a good time. They also walk up to you at the lake and check if you're drinking. The lake was nice, though, and so were the 2 ladies at...
