Folsom Lake – A Dependable Summer Escape We headed out to Folsom Lake on a weekday afternoon after work, around 4 PM. Even for a weekday, it was surprisingly busy—but we managed to find a quieter spot away from the crowds, which made all the difference. The water was cool and refreshing—exactly what we needed to unwind. Because it was later in the day, the water was a bit murky, not quite as clear as it is early in the morning. Still, it felt great to take a dip. We went to one of the boat ramp areas, and while the water levels are noticeably low right now (mid-July 2025), it actually revealed more sandy beach areas to relax on—which I personally enjoyed. The entry fee is $12, which gives you access to any area around the lake. There are bathrooms nearby, but don’t expect them to be well-stocked. They’re functional, but bring your own essentials just in case. One of the best parts? It’s dog-friendly! Our pup had a blast splashing in the water and running along the shore. Folsom Lake remains a solid, go-to spot during the summer. Whether you’re swimming, bringing the dog, or just enjoying the scenery, it’s a steady favorite for cooling off and catching a bit of nature close to home.

Our family has come to Folsom Lake many times over the past two decades. The lake water is clean with oceanlike color. Its surrounding mountains are breathtakingly beautiful. It's a great lake for speed boats and jet skis. We have had many picnics on the sandy beaches at Beals Point. The parks are kept clean with public restrooms and showers. Lately, my wife and I enjoyed taking our inflatable kayak to cross the lake from Granite Bay Beach to the opposite side to enjoy the beach and watch the sunset, just the two of us. The experience made me feel like we were on a honeymoon vacation far away. As of 2024, the fee to enter the lake was $10 per passenger vehicle.
