Spend the day at Fontenelle forest with us. Fontenelle forest is one of Nebraska’s oldest conservation organizations and has over 2100 acres of forest, prairie, and wetlands along the Missouri River. They offer a variety of hiking trails, a nature and learning center, a brand new playground, and raptor refuge. Our favorite was the bird watching room. These moments with my baby are so precious to me. 😭💗 #momtok #boymom #toddlermom #toddlerfriendly #thingstodoinomaha #fontenelleforest #toddlerplaydate #outdooradventures #outdooractivities

We finally got the opportunity to visit Fontenelle Forest again after 7 years. I had the pleasure of meeting Celeste and Sheila at the front desk. They were so kind and lovely. I thoroughly enjoyed our little chinwag. The gift shop is AMAZING. I purchased a few bits n bobs and was pleasantly surprised with the very reasonable pricing. Unlike other places I have visited where you’d have to sell a kidney or 2 for a few items. My advice would be to support this gift shop and take advantage of the wonderful selection of items on offer. The forest is as stunning as I remembered it. It is so serene. I particularly loved the fact that you can choose the easy option of the broad walk or the trails if you are feeling a tad adventurous. There are 2 adventure parks for the children and adults. Tree Rush is for ages 7 to adults. Kid Rush is for ages 4-6. Basically there is something available for all ages. The admission prices are super cheap and it’s worth buying a membership if you intend to frequent the forest. If you visit twice then you’ve basically paid for a years membership. Can’t get better than that!!! The Raptor Sanctuary is fantastic. The stories of how these birds were rescued is truly touching. Picnic tables are dotted around. Bathrooms are clean. There is ample free car parking available.

After being in Omaha for many years (having grown up in the Appalachian Mountains) I finally joined Fontenelle Forest to get some nature therapy. I never knew how nice a forest was hiding close by in Bellevue. The boardwalk is definitely a good way to enjoy nature if you have mobility issues and it is expansive. I was headed for the back woods to get some distance from civilization and was not disappointed. I was lucky enough to see 4 groups of wild turkey and more types of bird than I could identify. The forest was alive with wildlife and wildflowers. I saw deer sign and a large group of some type of bird of prey enjoying a thermal over a ridge. The forest was mostly quiet with, except for birdsong and the occasional plane from Eppley Airfield. Got some good views of the Missouri River and a glimpse of downtown Omaha. The nature center was nice and the art gallery there had some interesting treasures. I can't wait to visit again soon.

It was really great going there during spring time the trees are super green and the wind is chilly enough to make you feel so comfortable. We saw wild turkeys all over the place and lots of birds too. The lake is there but not to magnificent I was more amazed of the Green hills and trees. In going there make sure to bring water and their map coz their trail is not that short just enough to get you confused 😂😂.. we paid $22 for the entrance since there's 2 of us and all adult. The nature center is cool but just simple one where you can see the information dear, bathroom and a small lounge. They also have a place for kids downstairs that has lots of games related to what's in the Forest. They have the recovery center for the owls and birds who got injuries. The birds there are really pretty and beautiful. Oh and this place is great for kids too so educational.

We took the kids on a Saturday morning and mainly did the boardwalk, a quick off-the-boardwalk path and the indoor areas/history/bird exhibits. There is definitely some uphill either direction, but the inclines were tolerable for our whole group (baby/stroller, kids, adults and seniors). The indoor exhibits were informative and the workers are very knowledgeable. We also purchased a back pack kit which had scavenger hunts, binoculars, and tons of info/activities for the whole group ($5!). Recommend buying a family pass and visiting more than once-- or if you're just into hiking, there are many quiet trails. The tree Rush Adventures are a separate area and cost, but really cool. Lots of brave people chaining themselves to ropes and climbing/riding around in the trees! Right next to the Missouri River, there is plenty of lush forest to explore.
