We visited late in the afternoon on a gorgeous fall day. We have visited here before & would highly recommend a visit. The preserve is beautifully kept & covers a spacious area that welcomes exploration. The signage does a great job explaining the history & the various structures of the preserve. The original purpose of the fort was unique & offers an additional piece of narrative with respect to the US government's role in Native American resettlement. Don't forget to explore outside the fort on the south & west for more discoveries, including a short geology lesson. I gave this a 4 for 3 reasons - it otherwise would have gotten a 5 rating from me. 1- I couldn't evaluate the museum (closed for season which we expected). 2- The terrain within the fort is uneven: difficult & possibly dangerous for elderly or those with balance problems. 3- There are no public...

Too many of these historic places have disappeared or are disappearing due to "progress".
This country needs to slow down and start preserving historical places like this.
