Best place to social distance and have a day trip. Just outside of Chattanooga. The park is dedicated to the Union win over the Confederate. The park takes you through routes to reach each battlefield the war was fought on (which is a lot of acres). We drove each land mark in our car only having to stop and get out for a few routes to view monuments. The grass was really high so some were really hard to get too. Although we drove there were nice scenic routes suited for walking, and biking. The highlight was the Wilder tower. Normally you could walk up but it was closed this time due to Covid. Also the museum and visiting center were closed so we didn't get to visit.

We had time to kill before we could check in to our cabin so I found this place on Google Maps. It was such a huge place and I can’t imagine the history here. It puts your thoughts into perspective walking grounds where so many lost their lives. The tower was exceptionally taller than I expected. Going up the stairs was quite a hike but the view at top was worth it. You’re better off making sure you don’t have to use the restroom there. It’s pretty much a smelly outhouse with no sink or trash can. In fact, I couldn’t find a garbage can anywhere that I walked.

Absolutely beautiful as always, we watched the storm roll in. … would be nice in there was a railing on both sides of the step so you have something to hold going up and down not just on the right side…🤷‍♀️ we took my niece for the first time, she is three, and she loved it! I loved coming to here and going up top to watch the sunrise and sun set, the last few times we have gone to the tower to watch, we couldn’t get up, that stinks but🤷‍♀️ well worth checking out the world from up 😍

A good climb! Don't attempt if you can't manage about 5 stories on a winding very narrow spiral staircase made for small feet, LOL. It's dark, too, with only a few narrow windows along the flight to light it - and do be aware that Insects like it, too! So beware any wasps or hornets - there was a very active nest on the top on one side - but I went with the hopeful philosophy of "if you don't bother them etc " It worked. And the view was worth it - especially the breeze after all that climbing! There are usually at least a few people around, some maybe in it - and you'll have to do some negotiating on the stairway if you and they are going in opposite directions, so be careful. It would be a long tumble down on stone steps if you mucked up somewhere up or down the line. But for those who are physically fit and willing, it's worth the climb to see this bit of history and it's surroundings from a new height.
