Gunn Park is amazing. As someone whose lived here my whole life I have some of the best memories in this place. I always enjoy going there to meditate or simply hang out in nature. (Sometimes I have to deal with entitled people but that's no fault of the park itself ...) Plus whoever is doing the art on the walls of the shelters us amazingly good and it just goes to show that a little town like this still has some talented people in it. However ... A major problem with the park is the trash. Fort Scott or whoever owns the park, please hire people to go out and clean your park on a regular bases. I personally don't mind taking a broom to sweep the shelter house on the hill from time to time nor do I mind picking up trash around the area I'm hanging out, but I'm just one person. I can't clean your whole park for you. I want to mind doing a little bit because I think the park is a wonderful place but I don't have the time do it extensively. But that's really my own my issue ... and I do want to applaud them for repainting shelter houses and getting some of the benches fixed. That was really nice.
All and all though the place is nice. A big recommendation to go there if you live around here or are visiting Fort Scott. Just clean up after yourselves when your...

Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is a great, and huge, park! We didn't realize just how big, so we stopped at the first playground, which is really better suited to older children, as it has very tall equipment. At this first area there is also a lake and the stone pavilion, which is beautiful and well suited to family reunions and other get togethers. If you drive in further, you will come across other playgrounds, some with smaller equipment for younger children. There is also a second lake and other buildings that are available for rent. You can also camp and fish here. There are trails for hiking and biking, a dog park, and a disc golf course. This park also has a very interesting history.
This is a great place to picnic and play, to camp, or...
