If you are even remotely in the area, the camellias are a must-see. I go with my family a couple times each year, and it is a favorite tradition of ours. They also have some really beautiful plants for sale, usually around $33 dollars, which is an excellent deal for plants that size. My dad is an avid gardener and has quite a collection of Massee Lane camellias back home. Also, look into their membership policies. I believe if you belong to Atlanta Botanical Garden, you can come to Massee Lane for free. There are a LOT of participating garden memberships included in the program, definitely...

Massee Lane Gardens is a short drive south from Ft. Valley, GA and is home to the American Camellia Society and a large collection of porcelain sculptures. I visited in February and while there were still some camellias in bloom, most of them were past, but it was still worth the trip. Along with paved paths to walk around the gardens, (some of the brick paths are uneven) there are ponds, gazebos, and greenhouses. The porcelain collection is housed in two separate buildings and is worth the time and small admission...

February is prime season for Camelia blooms here. As reciprocal Botanical Garden members, admission was free. The recent 14 degrees cold and few inches of snow seemed to do minimal damage to the flowers and everything looked very good two weeks after that storm. Saturday afternoon offered plenty of photo opportunities without others in the photos as there were not many other people visiting. Parking is plentiful and there was a couple of food options...

Great variety of camelias, some developed locally, a favorite of Jimmy and Rosalyn. A little Japanese garden, true to Japan precisely laid but not fussed over. What looked like a pine snake sunning on a pond rock didn't bother to leave. The tree pollen was high at the beginning of April, but we were blessed with a comfortable temperature, blue skies and almost had it to ourselves. There are a number of habitats, but the camelias were the focus, it seems.
