Don't let the reviews about the drive stop you! Drive tips: Stop at J Cafe for a smoothie, coffee or sandwich EVs: Charge at the Shell Recharge in Miranda or Leggett before you go

Black Sands Beach: Upper Parking lot has bathrooms and incredible views Lower Parking lot for disabled parking Walk down to beach: There is a paved path from upper lot to lower lot, from there it's a short dirt path.

Beach: Stunning rugged wild CA coast, with unique black rocks/gravel/sand, worn down from hundreds of years of natural ocean activity. Beach activity: Walking the beach, photos and soaking in the last wild coast line of CA

Beach Tips: Do not swim or play in water at Black sands, go to the cove near Mario's Bar and Grill to play in sand and water

It's the CA version of the Road to Hana, minus the terrible...

Lovely views at this beach! Great place to sit on a blanket on the warm black sand with many interesting small smooth stones to wiggle your toes in.

We love coming down to black sands beach. ..during our 3 week stay, we come down at different times to see all the changes. High tide...low tide. ..during the day and at night. The stars are amazing. We usually bring a bag worth is to pick up any plastic we find on the beach. It's a very clean, beautiful beach that everyone will enjoy. We age from 11 all the way up to 70. Wear closed toe shoes so you don't get rocks in your shoe and bring a light jacket. The waves are amassing to watch when they...

Captivating beach with black, pebbly shore nestled on the Lost Coast. The size of the rocks range from quite large with white striations to fine sand-like grains. We were a bit worried that the kids wouldn’t find “typical” sand to play with—they quickly found the black sand! Easy and plentiful parking with Restrooms and info boards. Also a gateway to several trail heads that run along the surrounding ridge. Please follow the warning signs for avoiding the beach’s shoreline ….the waves here dangerous.
