Balanced Rock is one of the most iconic features in the park which is 128 feet tall. This feature may appear as an epic balancing act but actually, it is not balanced at all. The slick rock boulder of Entrada Sandstone sits attached to its eroding pedestal of Dewey Bridge mudstone. The exposure of these two rock strata layers is ideal for the formation of arches and balanced rocks. The giant rock is viewable from the road pullout but I suggest to take 0.3-mile round trip which gives you a closer look...
Read moreBalanced Rock is a pretty famous rock formation, and rightly so! It's a pretty amazing sight to see this enormous rock seemingly precariously perched on a relatively tiny column. The trail to the base of the rock is flat and wheelchair-accessible, and a rougher (but still easy) trail that loops around the formation. Definitely worth a stop.
A bathroom and picnic area are available across the road from the parking area. Note that there's no water available here--get it from the Visitor...
