The only way to really see this house is via tour since there is no overlook. And this tour was even better than the Cliff Palace tour. It was so worth it. Idk who our ranger was but he knew his stuff and hangs out with the native Pueblo people although he isn't one himself. But he was super passionate and made the experience really fun.

Definitely go in the late morning or afternoon if you're doing this in the summer because the sun is intense in the early morning. It was a bit strenuous like they warned you about, that first ladder is really long so not a good place if you don't like heights. But it was fun to do. The crawling thru a narrow (yes, very narrow) opening to get out was fun, you are barely on the floor crawling though before you exit so it's not a big deal. But I would recommend this one even before the Cliff Palace tour for sure if you have the health and...

With it being Labor Day weekend, we could not get tickets for Saturday or Sunday, but we were able to get a ticket for the balcony house tour on Friday. I cannot say enough great things about the Ranger, Shanon. We have been traveling for six months in our RV, and have attended many things that were guided. And without a doubt, Shanon was the most entertaining, knowledgeable, guide we have experienced. He was funny, he was patient, he kept everybody involved from the oldest to the youngest. Absolutely the best part of our Mesa Verde vacation. My husband is 6 foot two approximately 210 pounds and had no problem crawling through the tunnel. I am only 4 foot nine, and I was able to do all of the ladders and steps. We booked the National Park Service, this was a very affordable and...

Book your reservation early! So many people show up to Mesa Verde not realizing that if you want to go on one of the guided tours of the ruins you need to book in advance of your trip, they get sold out. The park rangers that do the tours are very much into being there and it comes across in the tours. Very informative and interesting to see how the ancient native Americans lived. The guides are helpful and nice and also enthusiastic to answer any questions and share their knowledge. The hike was fun with ladders to climb and tunnels to crawl through. You cannot see the ruins from the parking lot because they are directly below but you can see them from a view point at the next stop up the road after a short hike to the view point. I highly...

Mesa Verde in SW Colorado is one of the most remarkable and least-visited US national parks. This national treasure protects the cliff dwellings and mesa top sites of the Ancestral Puebloan people who lived here for more than 700 years. One of the best ways to explore the park is to go on a seasonal ranger-led tour of the cliff dwellings, and you must buy tickets in advance. The full 2024 tour season begins on May 12th. Tour reservations can be made only on recreation.gov and are up for grabs 14 days in advance at 8:00 am MDT, on a rolling daily window. There are 3 tours available in 2024: Cliff Palace: the largest cliff dwelling in North America. On this 45-minute long tour, you’ll descend more than 100 ft down a steep sandstone staircase, and climb up four 8-10 foot ladders. Total walking distance is 1/4 mile. Square Tower House: This strenuous 90-minute, 1-mile roundtrip hike is along an unpaved trail that descends 100 feet and includes steep drop-offs, switchbacks, and two ladders (the longest is 20 feet). Hikers must be able to scramble over boulders and navigate steep gravel trails unassisted. Balcony House: one of the most fun and adventurous tours in the park and not for the faint-of-heart. On this one-hour tour, you’ll climb a 32-foot ladder, crawl through an 18-inch wide, 12-foot long tunnel, and climb up a 60-foot open cliff face with uneven stone steps and two 17-foot ladders to exit. The Long House Tour will not be offered because the Wetherill Mesa area is closed for the 2024 season due to continued construction of a new contact station.  Important: give yourself plenty of time to get there. The road through the park is steep, narrow, and winding. Driving from the park entrance to the tour meeting spots takes about an hour, and you’ll need to arrive at least 15 minutes before your tour starts. Who’s going to Mesa Verde in 2024? 🙋‍♀️🙋🏻‍♂️
