4+ hour drive from Phoenix with wifey and the 2 puppers didn’t disappoint. Spent 7 days at Rainbow Campground and couldn’t;t have asked for a better de-stresser. Be warned, there little to no mobile reception here but that suited us perfectly for the week away from the Phoenix heat and jobs. If you’re into hiking this areas is amazing! It rained everyday on and off. The camping gods were smiling as we setup camp with no rain and everyday we walked or hiked with the dogs we dodged a deluge by sometimes mere minutes. Rolling thunder and lightening was amazing and a real treat. Once day we spent the day reading most of the day listening to the sounds of the rain drops hitting the camper…sheer bliss of a day and just what we needed. Easily the best campground we’ve stayed in...

So 4 stars for how beautiful it is. Truly amazing how big it really is. Not very deep and sorry but fishing was lousy. I used power bait, several (lost) weedless lures lol in the weeds while shore fishing. Then rented a boat the next day, had 2 break down but as I laugh typing this, I still enjoyed the scenery as I had to walk almost a mile in soaking wet muck boots and socks with my gear after the first time lol. Even when I was out on the lake only got 2 bites, but no fish. But I definitely recommend visiting if you are up for nature, wildlife, beauty, cooler temps for us folk from the...

In the past we have really enjoyed Big Lake. The temperature is cooler and the trout fishing is great. We have caught some of the biggest trout out Big Lake that we have ever caught. If you don't own a small 4-6 person boat one can be rented from the General Store. The staff at the Big Lake General store are very nice and will share their knowledge on fishing conditions if you ask. Big lake is very popular on holiday weekends, so get up there early. We stay outside of the Big Lake park boundaries, this is due to the high cost to stay at the developed...

Arizona is really showing off this autumn šŸ‚ A quick drive north — golden aspens, crisp air, and the prettiest fall colors hiding in the White Mountains. šŸ“ Hwy 273 • Thompson Trail • Big Lake #ArizonaFall #WhiteMountainsAZ #ExploreAZ #BigLakeAZ #HiddenArizona ā€

would you believe this is Arizona? 🌲located in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, the White Mountains are the perfect place to go to escape the city and spend time in the beautiful outdoors! [SAVE this post for future planning!] šŸ• CAMPING: there are several campground options located in the Big Lake Recreation Area. we camped at Cutthroat. you can reserve a campsite through recreation.gov or there are a few first come, first serve sites as well. Cutthroat has tent sites only (no RV spots), vault toilets and running water. we chose it because it’s closest to the lake. 🄾HIKING: nearby hiking trails include Thompson trail #629 which follows the west fork of the Black River and the east and west Baldy trails. both are dog-friendly. 🐟 FISHING: try your luck at Big Lake, it’s a hotspot for cutthroat trout. a valid fishing license is required for persons 10 years of age or older to fish in any public accessible water in Arizona. we didn’t catch a single fish lol but the kids still had fun! šŸŖAMENITIES: there is a tackle and supply store located at the Big Lake marina which offers a few basics like snacks, ice and fishing supplies. ā™»ļø please remember to camp and explore responsibly by leaving no trace. let’s all do our part to keep these places pristine. who’s down to go? 🤩 #whitemountainsaz #visitarizona #campaz #arizonahiking #explorearizona
