We took a long trip from houston to colorado, utah, arizona, nmexico and bk. Both times: on the way to and bk we stayed at this great place. We r family of 3, child is 16. We had 3 adult german shepherds with us. The area IS hot. Extremely hot, 100+ in june. Our aircon ran 24h. It is more like dessert area, with poor vegetation. But: the campgounds are greatly planned and appointed. BIG spaces. Each place has its own big pad with decorative concrete wall and solid shed roof built above. Grill, bench and table are standard. Water and electricity hook ups. There r 3 sites with electr., water and sewrer, but there is a damp on the park exit, so really, no worries about black/gray tanks. We paid 14 $ !!!!!!! for the place. After 3 weeks travelling through numerous spots and paying ( more like being ripped off!!!!) in Flagstaff KOA 15 $ JUST for filling 50 gallons of water, no damp, mind!, -this park it feels like being underpaid for their great facilities. I saw other rv parks like sardines, with long term residents, full of crap, noise, running unattended kids with toys and bicycles everywhwere...for 46-50$... This park is silence paradize. Ppl are very quiet, all perfect clean, no host pacing the park on a golf cart snooping on you, just pure perfection! Lake is reachable in both directions, if u willing to take 20-30 min walk through stones and bushes, or u can drive to the lake, too. Considering we had our dogs that LOVE free running and space, and hunting,- my dogs walked themselves to extreme. After short, less than 3 min walk off the campsite, i could let them loose into the open space with numerous rabbits and humpsters and lizzards, so they could run free. It was great as the space is flat and open and u can observe their moves and no road either nor ppl around, so for ppl who travel with dogs like us, that used to freedom runs and high prey drive, this place is fantastic. Dogs could swim in the lake, too, run up and down hills. Love the place, really! The lake is very very big and i saw many ppl take jetski and boats and zoom across the lake on a regular basis. Reminded me page with lake powell somehow, but on a modest scale. Definitely on my book. So glad i...
Read moreWe had reservations for a week in early December 2016, after four days of dealing with huge disgusting pack rats, we packed up and left. There is a big pack rat problem at Brantley Lake State Park. Pack rats have made visible burrows and nests in numerous locations within the campground. One of the Camphosts told me how to try and keep the huge rats from getting into our RV. (Mothballs and lights around the RV, rat traps, and steel wool in RV openings) I tapped five huge disgusting pack rats. The Camphost I spoke to openly told me that neither the Park Rangers nor the state are actively doing anything on a regular basis to extirpate pack rats. Two RV campers next to us were not so lucky/effective in keeping pack rats out of their RV's (motor home - fifth wheel and truck). Pack rats ate and caused damage to the fire wall material under a truck hood, and got into a motor home, who knows what kind of damages they may have caused by chewing through wiring. The camphost also told me pack rats at the park have done some serious damage to some RV's by getting into RV's and chewing up wiring. We were lucky we got out of there with no damage to our fifth wheel and truck wiring, (that we know of at this point, hopefully we won't have any issues!) My strong recommendation to RV'ers is straight forward, stay clear of Brantley Lake State Park campgrounds to avoid disgusting pack rat damage to vehicles and RV's. The State of New Mexico really needs to do something to extirpate the pack rat problem at Brantley...
Read moreWe spent 14 days here so i am packed full of info.. This is desert so it is wide open. When we arrived we discovered the site we had booked was too small for our rig. Within minutes 2 hosts greeted us and i told them my problem. Within 20 minutes they had me in a great level pull through. Thanks guys. It has a nice lake with a nice boat ramp. Their are fish to catch and release but check with them first. We saw some birds and jack rabbits. The rabbits would pop out of their holes and run fast through the open desert. My dog wanted to chase them but he was leashed. They have some nice trails and i think one goes to the lake. The bathrooms were clean but with toilet paper all over the floor with other garbage. Good enough for a shower if you can get hot water? I did not look at the toilets so check other reviews for that. After research i found the hosts are not responsible for cleaning the bathrooms. It would seem that the people using it should look behind them and pick up their litter. One guy on a bike came wobbling by and shouted at my dog to shut up. I believe he was talking to my whole family. As he peddled by he looked back and fell. It was then i knew he was one of those batheoom culprits. He had a tissue stuck to his flip-flop. (Carma s#!ks). Note: please read my other posts. Very funny. Read through them. Warning: People with no sense of...
