Dates of stay: 28 Feb - 2 Mar 18. Nice park, short drive from I-25 (Exit 63). Review and pictures pertain to the north portion of the park, I didn't venture into the Percha Flats or Riverside camping areas. Palomino, Appaloosa, and Stallion campgrounds fairly similar with respect to the size of the camping spots, shelters, fire pits, electric hook ups. Most all are easily pull through spots. Most of the spots in these area are under the reservation system and have power. The area was quite full, probably 80-85% occupied. I think a lot of people stay for the 14 days, skip a day, and reserve the same spot for another 14 days. I elected to stay at the lake front just south of boat ramp. That area is considered "primitive" but it still had ground-level fire rings and picnic tables...easy walk to a vault toilet and water spigot. Steps by the vault toilet take you up to Palomino campground for comfort station/showers. Lots of thorns / "goat heads" off the beaten paths/grassy areas. Fairly rocky shoreline, but still neat to explore if you are okay with lots of rocks. Road to beach primitive area easily drive-able with 2wd vehicle.

Nice clean park with spacious RV parking, for the most part. One downside is the washrooms, although they are clean, the water is cool to cold in the showers, the lights are motion sensitive and go off when you are in the shower. The washrooms are not heated, so more of a summer stop over. Some RV sites are the wrong way round, you therefore end up with your picnic table right next to the next sites sewer outlet.

Great place with scenic vistas! Well kept RV sites. Only problem was the 50 amp breaker would trip when we were running both ACs to cool it down (98 degrees outside), over 90 inside RV trailer! Just used 1 AC and it was okay. If Google maps says take Exit 63 off I-25, follow Brown signs. DON’T follow map directions. Best to take Exit 59.

My first experience was alright however, I parked across from the “Host” and they made our time there awkward, they would sit down and stare at my family while we camped. Then the “ranger” came to check if we paid for the entrance (which we did) but right away said that we only paid for one night. So we had to go show the ranger the sticker that was very easy to see because it was on the windshield, he acted like he couldn’t see it. Once he saw the sticker he said we were good and right away he went straight to the host... see where this is going?🤦🏽‍♂️ Then the neighbors complained that our music was loud. Whatever you do don’t camp next to the host or if you like to play “loud music”, because you will get kicked out right away, go as far as you can from them and make sure the neighbors are your type of people. Unfortunately that was not my case. The place is awesome just the people that are there unfortunately I can’t say the same. Keep in mind that there are raccoons, skunks and cats, that like to eat your food while...

We used this campground as a stopover night. The temps were very hot and we had reserved only a 30 amp site. Luckily, we were early enough that the office enabled us to switch to an empty 50 amp site 1. We were grateful. On a 30 amp, the 90+ temps in the trailer had only gone down a few degrees. All of the sites were pull through in the two loops we visited, Appaloosa and Palomino. At the time of our visit, there was not water availability in these two loops. We had received an email informing of this previously and we had filled our fresh water tank in advance. There were local options available, if you hadn’t. The lake was inviting. I only wish I had a boat to enjoy it. We went into Truth or Consequences for a soak at River Bend Resort and had a meal at a Mexican restaurant in town. There was also gas and diesel...
