We boondocked here last week. A great time was had by all, even with the light rain. A herd of elk walked by every morning. A coyote wandered by about 30 yards away but took off when our German Shepherd was spotted. The sky gives a beautiful view at all times, but it isn't super crowded which is perfect for.charging solar panels. Water levels were far too low for fishing, but what can you do? During walks, I found two intact deer spinal cords, and one from an elk. The biggest surprise was all of the teeny wild onions at our site; I didn't notice them until our 4th day. We boiled them in water to flavor our dinner and it was wonderful!
Just a heads up: there was a significant wasp and bee problem. We got used to having 3-4 on us at all times. They enjoyed walking along our eyelids, eyebrows, inside shirts, etc. My spouse has anaphylactic reactions to stings but I ended up the only one of 6 of us to get stung. A wasp got me Wednesday and a bee got me Thursday. Anyway if you're allergic, keep epinephrine close at hand. You...
Read moreCoconino varies widely. From 2 stars to 5 stars depending on where you are. 2 stars...Stayed here close to Flagstaff, before going to Grand Canyon area. Difference of night and day for free boondocking. Coconino national forest has been used and abused near Flagstaff. Road is in dire need of grading. This spot while large enough for my 24' class c and towed car, has all the garbage from the pigs who used it before. Blankets, a torn up tire still on the rim, shot gun shells everywhere. Bones from the kills, smashed radio's I could go on. The one and only posative is Internet 2 bars LTE.

But with creative driving and very careful watching...no problem. Sites are spread out and most have a fire pit. Most sites are 4G or LTE. No problem with Internet. If you have a towed. Park RV and go...
