Once upon a time, Daniel's Park was an amazing place to visit. Views for days, lots of land and trails to explore, rocks to climb on and over. While the views still exist, at some point in the recent past the City and County of Denver have installed a significant amount of fencing and have closed off 97.3% of the park itself. Visitors are now limited to strict designated paths with no opportunity to access the rest of the park. They have turned what was an amazing place to view a sunrise, a moonset or a sunset into a sterile, overly safe, fenced off, limited, neutered... Path. It's no longer a park, it's a walking path. Used to be, one could find a private rock outcropping, enjoy some time to contemplate life, take in nature and be at peace without being interrupted. Now? Well here is one of three designated overlooks with a bench or two and everyone else is now sharing that same limited space. Due to the views, I can't really give it less than three stars, but I mourn over the space this park used to be. Basically, spending five minutes at one of the overlooks now feels like one has overstayed their welcome. I don't know what the issue was and why it was necessary to fence off the main feature of the park, but drilling post holes in the rocks to set metal fencing in concrete must have done more ecological damage than anything past park visitors could have done. Perhaps it was for your safety, citizen! Observe nature via the preselected safety corridors, take hold of the guardrail, lest you have an unfortunate encounter with gravity! Maybe next you can only visit if you have pre-approved helmet and elbow pads. Anyway, the point is this... Don't plan on spending anytime more than the time it will take you to traverse the path and stop for a moment to observe the view. It's no longer a destination, now it's a...
Read moreAWESOME OLD PARK...... NOW RUINED.
Daniel's Park has been a favorite of mine for over 20 years. Now the City and County of Denver has fenced off THE MAJORITY OF THE PARK making it extremely confined and drastically limiting the experience of the people who visit.
People used to be able to climb down the bluff into the park and walk around. Kids would run around the pathways in the scrub oaks, and generally enjoy nature in an unorganized, spontaneous fashion. There were rocks down in the park you could climb on. Now the only place you can visit is the top of the bluff, and the City and County of Denver is turning it into a formal park with Rangers whose sole job is to nitpick the people who are just there to enjoy nature.
While my family and I were there a 20-something couple were there grilling some burgers in the picnic area. They finished, cleaned up, and disappeared. We thought they had left, but later on a Park Ranger shows up, walks inside the fence and finds them sitting there enjoying some alone time with the view, and proceeds to order them around and lecture them in front of other park visitors.
Here's the thing.
They weren't hurting anyone or anything. They were minding their own business and enjoying the view...... on the other side of a fence that wasn't even there a few short months ago...... probably the way they had always done beforehand.
My guess is the owners of the private golf club nearby came up with some problem with park visitors walking along their fence line, and complained. Some millionaire/billionaire had a hissy fit because people were enjoying themselves next to their "exclusive" club.
Thanks a lot City and County of Denver..... doing what big government does best.... regulating people and limiting them while...
Read moreDaniels Park is a beautiful setting, and Bison preserve. The herd of Bison living on this land have broken many records. Anyone lucky enough to see them grazing, will see the healthiest group of Bison in the area. This herd really surpasses the herd in Genesee by several measures. This year’s calves are healthy, and strong. Although the lack of rain was limiting grazing options, the wonderful rancher who lives on site with his wife and family, is always ready to supplement their grazing with hay.
Anyone who visits this area in the winter will be able to see this young man feeding the herd on a daily basis.
The massive undertaking of paving this road, and making it more user friendly for visitors and residents, is just about completed. The former kidney jarring dirt road, and potholes, are no more. This project has limited the ability of teenagers in all terrain vehicles to drive about recklessly, and this is a good thing.
Weddings and photo shoots abound throughout the year. Daniels Park is a real gem!!! This young rancher demonstrates true ownership of this herd, and the results speak for themselves. Don’t...
