We hiked this trail today and I'll tell you, it is a long trail however, it takes you through some GORGEOUS areas! There are no water features because when we went it was very dry and during a drought, so there was no water in the river beds, but even though it was a dry hike I would definitely five out of five recommend you do this if you have the stamina to do so!
We started at about 2:00 p.m. and finished at about 6:00 p.m. I am a moderately physically capable hiker and I was able to do it with the exception of a couple blisters on my feet and my feet were not feeling the best after haha! But it was definitely worth it!
all trails told me that it was about 7.8 miles, but I GPS tracked it on Strava and it was about 8.7 miles.
I highly recommend you be physically fit before you attempt the near 9 Mile hike, and please bring lots of water and some snacks or protein bars.
There is technically a stopping point if you start going clockwise on the trail it's about 6 mi in or so, it's another parking lot that you could technically quit at if you had a car parked there or a friend to pick you up.
My 310lb friend did it with me and it was EXTREMELY difficult for him. He went through about 6 water bottles and was having a really bad time around the 5 miles mark.
I haven't closed a lot of photos in this review to show you what the trail is like and some of the views you can expect to see, these photos are the sole property of myself and are not to be...
Read moreWe hiked this Fairyland Loop trail in Bryce Canyon National Park in December 2018 as a family. We were travelling with our 13yo teenager and I hesitated whether this 8 mile (13km) hike will be too much for her. We’ve done Angels Landing in Zion Park the day before, the trail which is shorter but much more challenging than this one. I researched many reviews on the internet, all of which said that this trail is marked as a strenuous only because of its length. There aren’t any steep climbs or descends. Also, the reviews said that this trail is more desolate than the easier and touristy trails. So I decided to give it a go and can now confirm all the above as true. As the road to the Fairyland Point was closed due to the snow and government shutdown, we parked at the Sunrise Point and walking along the rim taking in the panoramic views of Bryce Amphitheater. It was our first experience of snow in this trip. We were very excited and stopped every 5 minutes for even more beautiful photos. After the Fairyland Viewpoint the trail started its descend into the Bryce Amphitheatre and we got to see the hoodoos close and personal. They reminded me of knights on guard in metal plated armor. It took us 5 hours to compete this hike but it was worth every minute of it! Be careful with your timing as it gets dark fast after the sunset. Moro photos on Instagram @joyofthemoment.travel...
Read moreMy favorite hike in Bryce Canyon (full disclosure: the also highly regarded Peek-A-Boo trail was closed due to rockslides so I can't compare it to that one). The rock formations here were incredible and there was so much variety in them, as well as the terrain itself. I felt myself saying "wow" nearly every time I rounded a turn or crested a hill.
This trail really takes you down into the canyon, then back up, then back down again, before finally climbing above the starting point and back down. It is over 7 miles and very little of it is flat, so I'd say it is a somewhat strenuous hike, but it's certainly doable for anyone with a decent level of fitness. In terms of enjoyment and a sense of accomplishment at the end, this hike will leave you feeling awesome. It goes without saying bring plenty of water and sunscreen for this one.
The hike starts and ends outside the park proper, but there are sections where the hike is inside Bryce Canyon NP, so although you might be able to complete it without anyone checking for your park pass (no one hassled me on a Thursday in early November) the NPS needs funding to preserve incredible places like this so...
