This was my first stop coming this national park! Starting from the south entrance and planned/ did all of the 20 stops. Coming here, I knew this park would be cool but it was so much more than that, it blew my mind. Seeing how these old logs turned into stone and the colors and feel and everything about them was mind blowing. I couldn’t believe it! I was amazed with every piece around. As you get deeper into the park I feel you find more and more cooler ones. This trail is pretty short but if you look around there is so much to see. A lot of people were just walking through it normal and barely looking and missing so much good stuff. Seeing pictures of this little walk I didn’t think much of it but it was so amazing. There’s some cool colored hills in the back too! There’s plenty of parking and this one is right when you get into the South Gate. There’s an amazing gift shop with lots of cool stuff to buy as well. Drinks if you need them too. There’s also a museum right by the start of this trail that was pretty neat as well. It’s about a mile or less to hike this one. There’s also another trail by the gift shop...

It was creepy and he never said the park is closed until the very end, we only got the aggressive “stay on the trail”, “don’t touch that”, “hurry up”, without any provided context. We stopped twice to assure he was following us by getting out of the car and taking pictures, and only then were we instructed that the park was closed. It was my responsibility to be out of the park on time, but it was an honest mistake on my part that could have been handled better by the ranger staff(preferably with a quick face-to-face exchange instead of being stalked for nearly an hour without knowing the reason as to why). My experience was...
Read moreDefinitely go to the scenic overlook towards the middle of this hike. It is a seriously beautiful view of all the petrified logs, and also the hills in the distance. The whole hike is only about .6 miles, and it is very beautiful. The museum right at the entrance of this hike is definitely worth checking out. It provides a lot of info about the trees, and when they formed and were petrified, and they even...
