I love Lake Powell and Glen Canyon. There are many sites to see such as Indian ruins, arches, cool wind sculpted canyons, many fish and other wild life. It is a muscle contaminated lake so you will need to either dry dock your boat for 30 days or find a decontamination station before going to another lake. The lake is a green color. The surounding land/mesas ranges from deep red orange to a white. Sunsets are exguisite. Always be prepared for wind, rain and thunder storms if you are camping or boating. There is not very much natural shade unless you boat into certain canyons. The amount of exposed beaches is all dependant on the water level. Certain canyons have beach at high levels while other beaches have more at lower levels. The lower the level the more beach that is exposed. Some Indian ruins are not available when the water level is high. Some canyons are not accessable unless the water level are high. When planning the sites you want to see take the water level into account. Rainbow bridge is well maintained and always accessible. There are floating toilets and places on the lake you can fill your boat with fuel, empty sewage, get water, and shops to buy supplies and souvaniers.

Google map was wonderful when we had to return to our campsite in the dark. The main channel is usually marked by lighted booies but we found some areas that were not lit. We were able to use Google map to pinpoint where we are. You may not be able to get cell service in every location on the lake, but I was able to get my GPS and google maps to always work for me.

The kids or teens in your group can even earn a Junior Ranger badge if you visit a ranger station on the lake. Lake Powell is a slice of...

My Review 2023 Glen Canyon is a truly remarkable natural wonder that captivates visitors with its stunning beauty and diverse offerings. From the majestic cliffs to the serene waters of Lake Powell, the area is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.

One of the most striking aspects of Glen Canyon is its awe-inspiring geological formations, which offer a glimpse into the Earth's history. The sheer scale of the canyon walls and the mesmerizing interplay of light and shadow create a truly breathtaking sight that leaves a lasting impression on all who visit.

Moreover, Lake Powell, with its crystal-clear waters and numerous recreational opportunities, provides visitors with an unparalleled experience. Whether it's boating, fishing, or simply basking in the sun along the shoreline, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

The rich cultural and historical significance of Glen Canyon further adds to its allure, with ancient petroglyphs and remnants of ancestral Puebloan settlements serving as a testament to the area's enduring legacy.

Overall, Glen Canyon stands as a testament to the splendor of the natural world, offering visitors an unforgettable experience filled with wonder, adventure, and tranquility. It's a destination that truly deserves to be celebrated and cherished for...

We were a group of 3 houseboats, about 20 people in all. Were concerned about the low water levels but didn't effect us much. Just made it difficult to find a good spot large enough for 3 houseboats. There was plenty of water for swimming, skiing, playing & site seeing; and there is so much to see both on the water & on land. The beauty is amazing, colorful, mysterious, an thought provoking! Was a little disappointed with the place we rented our boats from, Wahwep Marina. They were friendly & competent but the boats left a lot to be desired. We paid in full a year in advance to get the best deal??? We all had issues with something & had to be serviced several times, our boat never really got fixed, just made it bareable. You would think with the water level being so low and being restricted to no further then 25 miles they would have given us a break or extras or appreciated out business but none of that happened either. But overall, we had a great time, it's one of the most beautiful lakes we've seen, would recommend the lake for sure. Just check out all the marinas before deciding where...

We recently transected an area of the Glen Canyon Recreation Area along Scenic Route 95 and very much enjoyed the scenery in this area of southern Utah. Along Utah Route 95 south of Hanksville, you eventually enter the Glen Canyon Recreation Area near Lake Powell and the Colorado River. There is a lake overview point and areas where you can see the Colorado flowing amidst outstanding scenery. The drive is particularly picturesque throughout. We particularly enjoyed seeing the Hite Crossing Bridge in the Glen Canyon Recreation Area. This is the only vehicle crossing of the Colorado for nearly 300 miles between Moab (upstream) and the Glen Canyon Dam (downstream). The steel arch bridge is simple, yet looks attractive against the backdrop of the Recreation Area. Overall, we were impressed with the beauty of the Glen Canyon Recreation Area in southern Utah. It was a place we would have liked to have had more time to explore, perhaps something we can do during future visits.

Breathtaking. Really good time for reflection, watching the sunrise, and is just all around beautiful. They built a railing over the main ledge, but there's plenty of other areas that don't have a railing. These photos were taken before dawn around 6am and there was only a small handful of people there. If you go later, you'll have to fight the crowds and tour groups. The trail head is 3/4 of a mile hike through same before it turns into the rocky landscape. Use extreme caution and don't stand near the edge. It's easy to trip and that's how people fall off and die. The winds were pretty strong when I was there and was worried about walking even when I wasn't on the edge. If you do want an edge photo, use common sense and keep your center of gravity low to the ground. You can't trip and fall off the ledge if you're crawling along the ground.
