When I arrived it was clearly pollinating season for the cottonwoods. Half of the trees are cottonwoods. The other half are pine trees and it was snowing pollen from the cottonwoods the whole time. I went there to go fishing and was told that there was no more fishing at the lake. I would have to go to a nearby lake in order to go fishing. Which I went to lake Mack on the other side and it was raining and windy and I did not get a single bite and lost my tackle that I just bought. They drained Highline lake for zebra mussels and refilled. Partially some of the lake. You can paddle board and swim in the water but no fishing allowed. Park rules state dogs must be on a leash but a huge Doberman. Pinscher went into my camp and got nose to nose with my tiny dog and I got really worried it was about to get attacked. The only good experience I had was the Park ranger Brooklyn was gorgeous. Otherwise I would not recommend this unless you just want to camp with your kids for a day. Nice shaded park with lots of grass and a playground for children. Kind of disappointed. I was here in the past used to go catfishing and have a lot of fun. This trip however, was not as fun. I kind of regret going here and maybe I should have went somewhere else. This park is currently going under renovations. They are doing a lot of building and working around there. It looks like a huge construction area that will hopefully be covered up by...
Read moreHighline state park is a great place to spend the weekend. It has primitive and non primitive camping, call before you go as a lot of times the campground is full. There's a lot of people that kayak and paddle board here. There's a nice swim Beach that's roped off from the Boating area and has lots of big trees for shade when the sun gets a little too much. grassy picnic area is nice and well maintained, a nice little Hillside is all part of the day area. There is a paved boat ramp for your boat. In my opinion you don't want too big/ fast of a boat the Lakes really not that bigand the shape you will just be running the fast track oval. However lost of people use it as a testing ground in early summer to make sure things still float. On the water there's plenty of no wake zones for fishing and three-quarters of the lake is used for skiing and Recreation. During hunting season there are several duck blinds and areas to hunt. There's also several hiking trails and biking trails with access from both Campground areas. Fishing can be tricky mostly trout as it warms up the crappie and bass can be found. This lake is not going to produce trophies everyday but every now and then people get lucky Fish can be caught here. overall it's a pretty good place to go just for the day that is...
Read moreThe staff at this place get a five start rating but the campground itself only merits a 3 star in my opinion. Here’s why: 1. mosquitoes were awful. If you want to go camping and stay inside your RV the whole time come here. 2. The lake was murky and the boaters and jet skis were obnoxious. If you’re a boater or jet skier this place is probably great cuz you probably don’t care about peace and quiet and it dosn’t bother you if your wake is so high that a environmentally conscious person in a kayak can find a wakeless place to row not to mention a dog trying to go for a ball in the water. 3. No water at the sites that say water; to be fair, there is water close by but you cannot connect a hose to it. 4. The road next to the campsites had yahoos racing their cars up and down the road making an obnoxious amount of noise on a Sunday night. 5. The price was high compared to the 4 other state parks we have been in on this 30 day 4000 mile trip Now on the bright side, the shade was great, the green space was awesome, if it weren’t for the mosquitoes, the staff was she best in all the western sates we have been traveling through and the space we had was dead level. If you don’t mind a lot of boating activity, family gatherings, mosquitoes and loud street noise, this...
