We visited the Lavender Farm this morning for the first time and we we will definitely be back, bit there are a few things that I wanted to bring up and I hope the owners will address eventually and also to re-visit the photo policy. I dropped a start on my rating due to the bathroom situation & the "photo policy".
The "parking lot" is really pretty terrible. There really aren't any parking spots, everyone just parks wherever, so if you go, I would really do your best to be courteous when parking your car.
Upon entering, I was informed that you are not permitted to take photos with anything other than a cell phone unless you pay the $50 photographer fee. I am not sure the farm understands the difference between commercial photography and a professional photographer. Even the Tucson Botanical Gardens & Sonoran Desert Museum allow professional photography, not "commercial photography", as long as they are notified beforehand and you pay admission. The reason stated was because "people were taking pictures and not giving the farm credit". I would understand prohibiting commercial photography that is being sold for gain or even photographers that are working with clients, but not being able to take personal photos using my actual camera of my 7 year old daughter after paying admission ($15), Lunch ($30), and $31 in the gift shop, seems a bit ridiculous. I hope this "Policy" is re-visited because the farm is missing out on a lot of great photos that would help blow the farm up. This information is already floating around in local photography groups and I'm guessing it will not become a popular place for photos, because of it.
The bathroom situation is also pretty terrible. As far as I could see, there was one portable toilet and it appeared to not have been serviced in quite some time. It was a bummer to have to go all the way back up to the entrance to use the toilet. I think there needs to be a minimum of at least 3 toilets altogether, the one at the entrance is fine, but another one near the fields/childrens' area and the area by where the workshops are held. It would really be a great improvement to have actual plumbing, especially if the goal is to turn that place into a venue for small events.
We got the picnic basket lunch, it was sort of expensive, but I do think it was worth it. My daughter and I shared the chicken salad croissant and potato salad, and lemonade. The food was quite good and the lemonade was served ice cold in a mason jar and the food was served in a picnic basket - it was a very wholesome experience. The staff was very friendly and helpful throughout the whole experience. It might also be nice to have bottled water on hand for sale because I didn't see any - if there was.
The lavender fields themselves are beautiful, there are lots of places to sit in the shade and enjoy the aroma and views. It is definitely a hidden gem here in Southern AZ and we will back and I would recommend it - but be prepared for the caveat of not being able to take nice pictures, and be sure to bring water & go potty before you get to the farm.
We will be be back, looking forward to watching the farm grow and any improvements that...
Read moreWent to this farm today and the entry gate person had an issue finding our reservation (on a sheet with 3 names listed on it). Had to pull up my own email receipt to prove I paid, not really the biggest deal. However, this would be the tip of the iceberg. I was then informed that on top of the $15 charge I would need to pay $50 to bring in my personal camera. They charge photographers $50 to take pictures... Except I am not one but because I can afford a nice camera the scam artists here want to charge me $50 more. My wife just decided that we would pay the additional money and continue on with our day even though we were not super happy about it. But wait... THERE IS MORE. While walking toward the little shop where I was advised to go to pay this additional unwarranted and unjust fee I was chased down and screamed at by the owner for "how I treated their employee". He asked "Do you know what you said to my worker" which I advised I said "I thought it was ridiculous". As he continued to be irate saying I could just leave if I did not want to pay the fee for photography which I was heading down to pay. He then responded again if I didn't want to be here I could just leave to which I reminded him that I was advised to head this direction to pay it. He continued on making his little comments all the way I escorted to the place I was already heading to pay this "RIDICULOUS" fee. Terrible customer service for a mediocre tiny little farm. The owner should be ashamed of themselves and the gate worker calling him over for really no reason should not be in a customer service line of work. He never even asked what was going on and was screaming at me before I even spoke, completely rude. If I had known there would be so many problems I would have never went. The only I advice I can offer is don't bring a nice camera or they will treat you very poorly and overcharge for an...
Read moreNothing but good things to say from me! I’m an anxious mom so I messaged their Facebook page before I went to ask a few questions and they quickly responded and eased my mind. With three little ones I wanted to insure that this was an appropriate outing for them. That we wouldn’t be disturbing the peace by having wild children out there. She insured that it was kid friendly and plenty of room for them to run around and take in the beautiful aroma.
Price is amazing $5 per adult kids 12 and under free
We arrive and were shocked by all the elegant rustic touches there were around the farm. Beautiful for photos! If you need a place for a photo shoot this is where it needs to be!
There is a small kids area and may Ii look like nothing my kids spent at least an hour playing on the tire wing and drawling on the chalk board.
The paths are labeled perfectly and easily to maneuver around.
I was shocked by how small the lavender field was, not a bad thing but in my head I assumed it would be way larger. It is soooo beautiful. The huge Bees and dark butterflies with blue coloring, kept my kids on their toes!
They have tons of seating, sit and take pictures, soak in the smell, watch the wild life, have a picnic ( that’s what we did).
There are donkeys and ducks on the property!
The onlyyyyy downfall and it isn’t even a big problem to our family but I see how it can be troublesome is that there is no bathroom. They have a single portopotty at the entrance.
Oh and Thor, the dog is probably the best...
