Beyond this point on the road, the elevation drops, and you head down to the town of Grand Lake. The drive is also lovely, with good opportunities for hiking along the way, so of course, if you have time to continue, then head on.

If you’re on a limited timetable, this is a great half way point to stop, giving you time to see more of the rest of the park.

Take in the views down into the valley from Medicine Bow Overlook, and then turn around for a well deserved coffee break at the Alpine...

Another great place in the park to stop for panoramic views of the mountains and valleys. There is a small trail off of the parking area that you can hike a short distance around the hill to see views further along the valleys and to get away from the crowds of tourists to get some good photos. There’s something about hair point curves like this that just attract photographers. This is a beautiful place to stop at to take a few landscapes with your camera. I would recommend also taking a panorama of the views as well. I would really recommend stopping here or just driving by if you’re in the park!...

It was my first time to Rocky Mountain National Park in July of 2016, but my fiance has been there many times. We hiked the Medicine Bow trail until we found a tiny little mountain pond. It was the perfect place for a proposal. We can't wait to come back some day!
