Great trail system and free access to the Colorado National Monument Trails. I usually go up Wedding Canyon (right) which is steeper, unimproved, and more often shady and then down Monument Canyon (left) which is mostly slick rock and crushed gravel trail as it's easier on my knees and I can go faster. Monument Canyon especially can get a bit busy on the beautiful days in the Spring and Fall but it's worth it. You can also take this trail system all the way up to Rimrock Drive if you want a longer hike with a steep finale.

Tough one today, we started too late (9:30am) and took 3hrs 15 mins. Finished in 103 degrees heat! Not great. Should have started at 07:00 when not so hot. You have to be pretty fit in these conditions. Take plenty of water and snacks. We went clockwise and struggled the last 15 mins to find our way out up a steep path. Google maps saved the day. Top tip that helped a lot in the heat was having my small umbrella for some follow me shade all the way round which was a god send today.

About 5 miles round trip to follow the Monument Canyon Trail to Independence Rock, a little less than two hours. On the way in was a decent climb it seemed. The first part of the hike runs along behind some private residences but then it turns toward the Monument and it's quite scenic. We came across some bighorn sheep.

Beautiful area, marred only by some of the garish homes at the beginning (if you take the loop clockwise, just don't look left). I saw a herd of bighorns today, which was nice. Unfortunately, the trail was pretty busy, so I'd recommend heading out a bit earlier than I did if you're seeking peace and solitude in nature. Plus, an early start will give you nice, cool weather and the second half of the hike (again, if you do it clockwise) will be well shaded, which is lovely. I recommend it, and ask that if you do hike it, you maybe don't talk super loud. Enjoy the peace and quiet and just...be. It's not difficult and...
