MAJOR CONCERN
On Friday (10/11), we arrived about 15 min after opening to a full parking lot and long line of cars. Because our kids had already been the day before (which was a nice visit by the way), we let them get in the coaster line while we waited in our SUV. Waiting in the car line, a female parking attendant instructed everyone to follow a small shuttle bus to an off-site location where we could park and ride the shuttle back to the coaster. The entire line followed the bus, but we chose not to because our kids were already in line for the coaster. So, instead, we just kept circling the parking lot...and that’s when things got weird.
One of the times we got back in line, we didn't stop for the attendant to rehearse her spiel to us, figuring she remembered us from before. We slowly rolled by, but as we did she began yelling at us and throwing her hands up in frustration. I didn’t want her to think we were ignoring her, so I politely replied that she had already spoken to us and that we were just driving around to wait for the kids. That's when she belted out that she speaks to hundreds of cars a day and couldn't possibly remember us (with a prideful statement like that, we took it that she is closely related to the ownership of this company). She seemed offended because we didn't follow her orders to ride the shuttle.
If you visit the coaster, be aware that their parking lot is not large enough to handle the number of patrons (a sign said the coaster facility can hold up to 100 people, but there isn't nearly enough parking for that). If you do drop your kids off to get in line, be aware that the parking lot lady might get irate because you don’t want to be separated from them. Also, the ADA requires a certain number of spaces for those who are handicapped, and while it seems Mustang Coaster has enough handicapped parking spaces, it doesn’t really matter because their lot is so small that non-handicapped patrons are taking those spots. Although we’re not disabled, we feel for anyone visiting who does have a legitimate disability.
Finally, for someone to yell and get so irate over a trivial matter at the beginning of the day is heartbreaking. I’m a certified mental health crisis responder and I’m genuinely concerned for the parking worker's health and well-being. Maybe dealing with numerous patrons a day is too overwhelming for her. I saw a stable down the road that seemed connected to the coaster. Horse therapy is really a thing and maybe working the stalls would be a better fit for this person.
Yes, it's a fun coaster with a nice background, but none of that makes up for a nasty attitude and inadequate facilities. Thankfully, our kids didn’t know what had occurred and enjoyed the ride.
(I appreciate the response from the owner, so I'm upgrading their rating. I'm hopeful MC can educate their employee to be more patient with guests, allow her more breaks, and work with the county to have...
Read moreThis is a fun activity but the experience is limited by the crowds, lines and parking.
First, the ride is fun. You as the rider control to some extent how fast or slow your pod goes. You can slow your speed with a brake or let gravity take over by releasing the brake. The ride is on a single tract (no passing!) and a lot like a roller coaster. Because at least one of the pods in front of you is likely going slower than you, you can't really go as fast as you want.
The poor logistics and silly high cost are the reason for four stars. $25 for a single ride seems steep to me. There is not enough parking. So on arrival there is a good chance they will instruct you to follow a shuttle half a mile or so to a different destination to park. Then the shuttle takes you back to the ride site. That is a 15 minute or more ordeal.
Once there, the lines aren't well marked. There is a line to get back on a shuttle. One to get tickets. A third to get on the ride. It wasn't obvious which was which to a first time visitor. Further, if you get a pass from a local resort the process is even more confusing. We spent at least 30 minutes in a line before getting on the ride. Then had to get in a line to get on a shuttle to take us back to our car.
The biggest positive about the ride is the views. Do not assume you will be able to ride it like a roller coaster for the most part for the previously stated reasons. So go in expecting to go mostly slow and take in the view. The views are nice.
Kids will likely want to do it multiple times. Most adults will be good with one ride. Shorter kids must ride with an adult, though. Each pod can fit one to two people. Consider this before purchasing tickets. They have a multi-ride pass for $40.
I think it is worth doing but I would try to go at a time that isn't busy and see if the place you are staying has free or reduced...
Read more90% of the employee are great and beautiful location. I've been here many times before always was a great time knew to sign release form and check height then buy tickets easy to do. They added a fun picture booth lady working it was extremely nice and you could tell she enjoyed her job. The reason for the 2 stars is when we were purchasing tickets. The lady kept asking if we had 5 people writing the first part this is there was only 3 people on the release form 2 of them children and one of them an adult. I was standing there as I I've been there before, so I was trying to buy the tickets to make it easier on my wife that has never been and we had our two year old that is clearly under thirty six inches and cannot ride. She ask multiple times if we had five rides this was puzzling to me as clearly there was only three people on the form, and one of us was clearly under thirty six inches. Asked for 3 ride pass for wife and passenger only for my daughter that is clearly under fifty four inches. My son was questionable at the fifty four inches, I was gonna have him go check again as I may have missed his actual height, but she just said no. He's an adult didn't even give me a chance to walk over there could have been my fault but the way it was addressed was very forward, and there was no discussing, it wasn't busy there was no one behind us in line. In the end, somehow we ended up with three single rides and a unlimited passenger. Not even close to what we asked for. Definitely was not a good experience from a place that...
