We parked at the ranger station to hike the North Vista Trail as far as Exclamation Point (about 1 1/2 miles away). Overall, we spent a little under 3 hours at the north rim, completing that one 3-mile hike and stopping at all the overlooks off to the southeast. Obviously if you're hiking the entirety of the North Vista Trail, up to Green Mountain, or any of the Deadhorse Trail, that'll take up a good chunk of your day, but what we did was considerably less. The most disappointing part for me was mostly down to our trip planning. We'd originally planned to leave the Blue Mesa area at Curecanti NRA the following morning, drive CO-92 up to the north rim, spend half the day there, and continue on our road trip toward Delta, CO. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we ended up here a day earlier, and instead of stopping by on our trip west, we made an out-and-back (nearly 3 hour-long) drive, almost as much time as we spent in the park itself.

The North Rim of the Black Canyon is way less crowded the South Rim due to the out of the way location. It is worth it though for the incredible views. Do the short trail from the campground first then the road to all the other viewing sites East of the Ranger Station. Don't ask me how I know, but if you are afraid of heights, you may not enjoy it very much!

I’m my opinion my favorite National park ever! Wow! There’s a camp ground and nature trail and many beautiful vistas to explore among the teeny surrounding neighborhoods to get there!

The park website says that no reservations are required for the north rim camping area. However, when I arrived today there were 3 campsites that had reserved signs on them for 9/26 to 9/29 and no indication they were occupied. The rest of the sites were full. The ranger station was closed. Call before you make the long drive up there to make sure there are no 'special' reserved campsites. Totally dissatisfied with this poor...

If you do your research you will know what the open season is and that there are little to no amenities, no cell service and that all sites are first come first served, meaning you have to come in person to reserve your site. Folks don’t read and then get upset when they have to find out the hard way. This is truly a stunning place to be. Cannot wait for my...
