I had a great visit to the Pat Schroeder Visitor Center at Rocky Mountain Arsenal. It was easy to find with plenty of parking, including shaded spots under solar panels, EV chargers, and space for RVs. Inside, the center was clean and well-maintained, with exhibits on local wildlife (including a full-size bison mount), clean restrooms, and a water refill station with a working filter. Staff were available at the info desk, though I didn’t need assistance.

Near the building, there’s a viewing area for black-footed ferrets; it's definitely worth a quick stop. I then hiked the Discovery Trail, connected to the Lake Mary Loop, and continued on to the Lake Ladora Loop. The trails were in great shape, mostly flat, with some paved areas, and perfect for an easy walk.

Wildlife was abundant. I saw a deer up close, many prairie dogs, several species of birds including red-winged blackbirds, lark sparrows, a snowy egret, pelicans, herons, orioles, and more. Altogether, I hiked a little over 5 miles in about 2.5 hours. There’s not much shade, so I recommend going early or later in the day. It was a peaceful, memorable visit, I’d...

Relax and take a health break by visiting the Rocky Mountain Arsenal Wildlife Refuge. Drop by the PS Visitor Center to chat with knowledgeable customer friendly staff who provide tips, brochures and answer questions that will enhance your visit. This is just the beginning of an adventures that includes several lakes with large mule deer grazing in sight of paved walkways and a drive through the home of majestic bison/buffalo and roosting eagles. The drive is about an hour or more if you pullover to linger a bit. They also offer access to a download that provides a guided tour for your...

This seems like an incredible Visitor Center, however when I went at the end of February 2021 it was closed. It is likely closed because of COVID-19. However despite the actual indoor Center being closed you can still walk around on the grounds and explore the trails. There is also one area where they have prairie dogs in an exhibit that you can watch. Unfortunately the day I came it was cold outside so I didn't see any in the outdoor portion of the exhibit. However in the park I saw many prairie dogs, it is definitely worth coming and definitely worth the drive...

Nice place with all information about the park. They have both historical and wildlife artifacts in this building. Great place for kids to educate on wildlife. They have bison prairie dogs and some bird egg samples along with technology artifacts. Inside the center there are restrooms, drinking water taps, information center and maps available. You can contribute to the refuge camp by donations. The staff is super friendly and easy going. They have bison Mark's footprints on the floor. Some preserved coyote skin, birds, snakes , etc.
