Sandbeach lake was a good hiking/backpacking trail. You can do the hike to and from Sandbeach lake as a day hike and many people do but we choose to stay overnight at one of the 6 or so back country sites on the trail. The trail was moderately difficult and is moderately trafficked. It also traveled by horses so watch out for that. Permits are required for overnight camping and parking and can be obtained at either of the two wilderness offices in the park. Slightly easier to get into, regarding the timed entry permits and restrictions (which I appreciate, by the way, thanks, NPS). Read moreThis trail is definitely not for beginners. The trail immediately starts on a steady uphill for a good qtr mile. You have amazing views all along the way. There are two good spots on the way to Sand Beach Lake where you can take postcard type pictures. I would recommend hiking poles for this trail, it made a huge difference for us!
