The walk down to Step House is pretty easy, but bring some water and wear sunscreen. The site itself isn't as big and impresive as cliff palace and balcony house, but you can explore Step House on your own without a ranger. Don't forget to look at the petroglyphs at the top of the ladder. If there is a ranger down there, ask them to point out some of the art on the walls, like afroman and the hand.
