Tawa Point is named after Tawa, the Hopi Sun Spirit, and is located just inside the park's northern entrance.
From Tawa Point, visitors can see the colorful layers of sedimentary rock that make up the Painted Desert. The colors range from red to orange to yellow, and the landscape is dotted with buttes and mesas. The view is especially beautiful at sunrise or sunset, when the colors are at their most vibrant.
