A very unique geological formation resulting from events millions of years ago - volcanic activity with layers of different soils and ash then millions of years of wind and water created the hoodoos and stratas. A fascinating walk. Reservations were made two months in advance. The Cochiti Tribe handles the checking, the guiding to the trail heard, very well. I like the limited permits that allow for less congestion on the very narrow trails. Facilities at the trail head are all brand new.

The slot canyon is a must do. You don't have to continue up the mountain, you can just turn around if you don't want to climb up. The cave loop trail isn't that great. You can't go in the cave. Lots of gnats.

Phenomenal views & land formations. If you're in a hurry, you can jog up Slot Canyon to the Overlook in about 30 minutes, & then enjoy a nice gravity-assisted descent back to the trailhead...
