I would NOT recommend going here to this dog park. We have two doodles and you never know the temperament of dogs there. We hadn’t went in several months after seeing one dog fight/hear about another more severe in this large dog park. We decided to take our two dogs there yesterday since it was nice. My mini Bernadoodle has been attacked as a young puppy by a pit Bull and almost died almost 3 years ago. Yesterday, she had an even worse internal damage with larger puncture wound and longer attack from a Pit mix (bluish gray with white feet dense and larger attack from I learned was adopted from Boulder Humane Society approx 1 year to 1 1/2 that was 110 pounds. Owner 5/6 maybe young 20’s I would guess female thin, dark brown hair. She is very nice but I want everyone else out there to be careful and look out for this dog. The young female owner was nice and offered my terrified, hurt dog a treat as my dog was crying and shaking after about a minute of her female pit mix biting the neck of my dog, and then climbing on top of her (2 times her weight) and kept attacking and trying to take her away from me trying to separate them to no avail. The sounds of pain from my dog were horrific during the attack and everyone in the park heard it. I thought she was okay after my husband was able to separate them but she was in shock. She had to be seen today and has large puncture wound, extensive swelling, pain and massive soft tissue damage all over her neck and chest. I’m not happy and the owner left without giving me any info and now we have a vet bill w med, and likely more. Uploaded in an image of the deep tooth puncture wound in just one injury inflicted that could become infected and turn into an abscess in addition to all the swelling of her chest and all around her neck that can abscess as well. She isn’t in the clear for 3 weeks. Be careful if you go there and look out for this dog so...
Read moreThe Great Bark Dog Park covers a vast area of both long and short grass, and there is a loop that goes all the way around the inside perimeter (for larger dogs) part of the park. The Rockies create the perfect backdrop for this otherwise phenomenal park. Why three stars? Two reasons. For one, although I've seen multiple staff members on several occasions there to provide maintenance (and believe me, there are many poo-bag stations and trash cans, which is great!) we do not care for the community water dishes and jugs of water left everywhere. The reason I don't like it is because all the bowls always appear to be disgusting. So, while I like the idea that the county provides these things, it encourages people to NOT bring their own, and actually, they should, because infection and bacteria spread easily by using communal dog dishes. I have three dogs, one of whom developed a pus-filled eye within 24 hours after drinking from a water bowl there. So if you go, bring your own (clean!) water dish for your pups. The second reason is that people who don't have dogs go there, park and watch, and it freaks me out. Most people are fine, but I was there once and got a terrible vibe. As a solo female dog-walker I did not feel comfortable, which is a shame because the park is beautiful. I've been to many other parks where I've NEVER felt this way before. But this place? I don't know, but for some reason I just can't...
Read moreWe absolutely love this park. The area is well-kept and clean, with poop bags available along the path. The grass is mowed frequently and kept short with taller areas for sniffing. Around the perimeter is a 1/3 mile gravel path that is (mostly) even and unobstructed. There is some flooding along the west side after it rains, and can stay muddy for a couple days, but this area is easily avoided given the size of the park.
The small/timid dog area is a great feature, and about the size of most other dog parks itself. Most visitors respect the space as well, it's often empty or only occupied by small dogs or dogs in training.
Other dog owners are always kind and respectful. Most situations where dogs don't get along I've seen have been resolved quickly. The park is also large enough that at most hours there is plenty of walking space away from other people and dogs.
Overall a fantastic feature for dog owners in the area. Our puppy absolutely loves it, and it gets out all that puppy energy (for about 45 minutes until he's back at the...
