The Hogback — Attraction in Four Corners States

Saw a sign for 9600ft so the big girl was struggling up the inclines, driving in deep valleys then suddenly its as if the valley was inverted and you are driving along a mountain ridge... with no edge protection. This is a spectacular road and it is difficult to imagine how it was built. The road seems to go off the top of the world and wind through The canyons dropping thousands of feet along the way(as I recall). The grades are surprisingly steep and as high as any I have seen in the United States. We stopped at every location that we could and found unique information at a rest stop. The entire length of Highway 12 is incredible but this short section was the highlight. I'm used to driving curvy, narrow mountain and canyon roads but this freaked me out. I was wondering what would happen if one side started to collapse. We were lucky because there were no other vehicles on the road. I could inch along slowly and enjoy the experience.
