This is a great hike near the Kohl's Ranch .If you staying at the Kohl's Ranch Lodge, that would be the best starting point. Not sure if public parking is available, PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH. There are two ways to get to the waterfalls. (1)The easiest is to take Short Rd which gets you to the original Kohl's ranch. Turn left right once you pass the ranch (the road to the right gets you to the stables) and cross the small bridge with a private road sign. You will be on the Old Trespass Road. Find a "gate" with the "Please close gate " sign on your right. Turn left immediately after getting in. The trail will go in parallel with the fence and the creek, and it is less than a mile of hiking to get to the falls. (If, instead, you will go straight after entering the gate, the trail will get you to the top of the mountain). The falls will be on your left, where you will see some kind of natural viewing point. From there it is possible to climb down, cross the creek, and explore the area (2).There is another way to get to the falls. Walk all the way to the end of the Buenagua Rd where it turns left. There will be a Camp Tontozona in front of you. On your right, find a tiny "gate". It says "Public access to the Tonto creek", and, indeed, gets you to the creek. You have an option to cross it there and then continue walking to the left along the trail we described earlier. If you choose to hike along the creek without crossing it, please remember the trail goes through the tall grass, rocks, etc. It'll slow you down, but eventually you will be there. Again, you might walk further and explore the creek. Please take a good care of this...
Read moreWe took the mile in journey from the Kohls Ranch side via the No Trespass Road (actually the name of dirt road) must hike in no public parking. Park at the ranch and have a nice breakfast (closed on Monday & Tuesday)
We walked to end of road. There are private property signs for each cabin and at the end look to the right for the picture sign for hiking. The trail leads down to falls, as the creek will be in the left. Towards the base it gets rocky. We went as far as possible on the lower trail to creek. See photos. We decided not to cross over which required shoe removal or walk back with wet sneakers. Excellent and fairly easy...
Read moreIMPORTANT: there is NO PARKING on the road. You need to park at Kohl’s Ranch Lodge and walk the access road or along the creek to get to the trail head. The road is all private homes with no space to park (and very difficult to turn around on). The hike is easy and the falls are well worth it but note that from the Lodge or the trail head is about one mile on a mostly flat dirt road—still pretty easy for the kids. After the hike eat at the restaurant inside the Lodge they have great food and it makes for a nice post...
