A budding geologist 😁🪨 We did this really cool hike that involved scrambling and rappelling and the first thing she wanted to tell her Mom and sister when we got home was about the rocks 😁. I definitely need to schedule more time on the hike for "looking at cool rocks" in the future. Some of you might be curious if you're allowed to remove rocks from this area, and yes, you are! This was in the Tonto National Forest in Arizona and "prospecting and rockhounding activities that are limited in nature and are not ground disturbing do not require any paperwork." (fs.usda.gov) I let Whitney (6) choose three of her favorite rocks to bring home with her at the end. #hikingwithkids #hikewithkids #littleexplorer #littleadventures #littleadventurer #rocks #geologyrocks #timewithdad #hikingwithdad #lifeisbetteroutside

It’s blossom season Arizona! Two of our favorite places to see the bloom is Tonto National Forest in the Superstitions and Saguaro National Park🌵🌸 📍 Photo taken on O’odham, Tohono O’odham, and Hohokamn lands. • • • • • • #saguarosunday #saguaro #saguarocactus #saguarobloom #cactusbloom #visitarizona #arizona #hikingarizona #cactus #arizonahiking

This is a long drive out of Phoenix. I think an hour and half. We should have gone earlier in the day because we didn't have time to hike before sundown. We did watch the sunset over the water at Sagoura (sp?) Lake. That was nice. There seems to be a lot of trails for ATVs and we didn't find the hiking trails in our short visit. I think it would have been fun and beautiful to camp and spend some time here, but it's huge. It's definitely a desert forest and not what we expected to see when we think of a forest with lush trees and such, but lots of cactus. We love the mountains though and couldn't get enough of those views.

Lots to explore here. There's Saguaro Lake and Butcher Jones Recreation Area by Mesa. The trails offer a nice view of the lake, and you can walk down the piers or go for a swim (albeit the water was kind of muddy). There's also other parking lots alongside the Salt River, so you can go down and walk. Just keep in mind to buy your Tonto Pass ahead of time at a gas station. Some of the parks will have vending machines for that pass as well. The Tonto Park trails are a bit more rough around the edges vs other parks, and sometimes no amenities or just very rudimentary restrooms. Very relaxing though to go out. The aforementioned water spots do get busy in the...

I always enjoy in the Tonto national Forest in Arizona. The tonto national Forest includes desert and pine Forest and mountains with forests. It has many different plant zones. The forest has many different camp places. Lots of lakes rivers, creeks, streams. It is quiet sometimes and sometimes it's busy depends on where you go. It's much cooler up in the northern part of the Tonto national Forest. It is cool and peaceful on top of the rim and the Tonto national Forest. Wood recommend this force to anybody who likes nature, camping and taking pictures...
