I am a Durango native of 33 years. I left my hometown for 10 years and for memorial day wanted to take my family to my favorite childhood lake for some good fishing. After the huge expense of fishing licenses, poles, bait and tackle gear we get out there to find that Vallecito lake has turned into a money maker and everywhere you go there is a fee, half the lake that used to be open to the public free of charge is now closed off to these resort style camping and lodging areas. Needless to say I took my family to lemon dam and in less than an hour we caught 6 rainbow trout all keepers b4 the rain hit. I'm extremely disappointed that Vallecito lake is forever ruined. If there is a fee you shouldn't be asking for fishing licenses it's now more of a private lake...
