You are almost there, 10-11 more short, steep switchbacks and you are at Scouts Lookout and a chance to catch your breath before ascending Angels Landing. On our climb two weeks ago, there was still some ice and snow on the upper switchbacks that made you take a little more time going up and down, but we were still able to make without spikes. The best part, we started off on this hike around sunrise and there were only a few brave souls out at that time, which made the hike even better. And what is up with the name of these switchbacks? Never found out the background on how it was named.

Ok who named this? You would think such a strenuous hike would take itself more seriously. But as I ascended up the canyon worrying about how sketchy Angels Landing was going to be, what kept me going was knowing that I would first encounter something called "Walter's Wiggles". Incidentally, it's not a competitor to Chuck E. Cheese or a dance studio for kids; just more switchbacks. But they're shorter and steeper. Make sure to look up (or down, as you're descending) for an interesting POV of people traversing the trail.

This is a memorable section of the Angels Landing trail, and definitely not for the faint of heart. This steep series of tight zigzags is a challenging climb, especially under the sun, but it’s also an impressive feat of trail design. The switchbacks pack a serious elevation gain into a short distance and will definitely test your legs and lungs. Reaching the top is incredibly rewarding and sets the stage for the final stretch toward Angels Landing.
