I have been to the West Alluvial Fan Trailhead four times now. It is not a long hike, but it is a difficult one due to all the rocks that you have to climb over and due to the fact that there is not actual trail. You climb over rocks in order to see the waterfall. So I would recommend some good hiking shoes or boots. But once you get to the waterfalls, it is a lovely area. If you climb high enough, you get a very nice view of the valley. Definitely bring plenty of water to stay hydrated. They are finishing up building a bridge since people will try to walk across the river rapids to get to the other side. It is a safety feature.

A very rocky area with different self-paced activity options: sit near the edge of the rushing creek and dip your toes in the icy water; go fishing downstream; or hike up the steeper sections around the boulders for a neat view of the area. Currently there is construction on a new bridge over the creek - until that's complete you're essentially stuck on the east or west side of the water unless you want to go boulder hoping.

This is a good option if you don’t really wanna do much walking but you want to see a waterfall. This is a pretty decent size waterfall with almost no walking (several hundred feet) you can get pretty close to the river and it’s not too restrictive. The parking lot is quite small but now with what seems to be a permanent reservation system in place there’s virtually no one in the park so you shouldn’t have a problem parking.

A short little trail to a very nice waterfall with LOTS of boulders. Our kids loved climbing over an the boulders.

We came from the East lot, and our hike started with a nice wooded section then boulders. From the other direction, you hike through boulders in the sun (or more likely clouds) the whole way.

This trail is marked wheelchair accessible, and it's the first trail in RMNP that I'd actually call wheelchair accessible. All others labeled wheelchair accessible have a sand/dirt terrain that can get hard to push through. This has a rubberized firm base.

We got our adaptive stroller there from the East lot, but there was one extremely steep hill. That was definitely not wheelchair accessible and was hard to push my 30lb son in his stroller.

We didn't take the hike from the west lot, but it looked to be much less steep. Definitely the way to go if you have...

Gorgeous to view from the car, but a strenuous hike for those who boulder well. If you want a milder stroll cross the road ant the second parking area and walk the Sand bar. There is no path but a short walk will take you to the Fall River(Creek). Swift water during the melt and slow fishing water in mid to late summer. Remember you need a valid fishing license and this area is catch and release only. Be mindful of wildlife, elk, deer, moose, bighorn sheep and bear frequent this area. Remember to view wildlife from a...
