This is a review of the New Jersey Taco Festival, not of the grounds itself.
As part of Yelp's Elite, I won 2 General Admission tickets (1st time I ever won anything lol) to this year's NJ Taco Festival at the Sussex County Fairgrounds for Saturday September 7th. But the GA prices were very reasonable: $10.00 online purchases, $15.00 at the booth and the ViP admission was $70.00, but then again this price includes alcohol sampling.
I, of course, brought my wife along to this festival. We left our town of Hackensack at around 1325 and arrived at 1415, not a bad drive down 80 and 287. Once there we stopped at Will Call where they had my name for entry.
The grounds are huge and there's plenty of parking. First food truck we saw upon entry was the Cousins Maine Lobster truck. We were already starving and even though this is a Taco Festival, we figured to try one lobster roll from these folks. They pack the buttery toasted bread with a copious amount of lobster meat and well seasoned to boot.
After that good lobster roll eating we headed for what we came here for ... tacos!
There were plenty of taco food trucks, but other foods as well, such as kettle corn, ice cream, etc..
The live hard metal/rock music was kickin' and hardcore, it added much needed character to the atmosphere. There was lots of games and prizes to enjoy. They even had a bunch of luchadores (wrestlers) from Lucha Libre, it was a hoot! LOL
The reason I gave it 4 starts, instead of 5, is because there weren't enough Taco food trucks, there were parts of the grounds where it was open and devoid of food trucks, a waste of good space. Hopefully in the coming years there will be more vendors...
Read moreThis was a perfect venue for our wedding! It has beautiful space both indoors and outdoors and it is elegant and classic without being overly fancy. We got married at the Zen garden and didn’t need any decorations or flowers for the ceremony space because there are beautiful plants and flowers that came with the space. The grounds are very well maintained and there are so many nice areas for photos. The main indoor space is also beautiful, with a glass ceiling that lets in lots of natural light. There was plenty of space for our 175 person wedding, but I imagine it could be a bit too crowded if going much higher than that. There is another indoor space (connected to the main room) where cocktail hour was held, and this served as a great spillover area where people could go during the party – my parents loved it that their friends & our older relatives could get have a space to gather and talk that’s away from the loud music on the dance floor. I highly recommend this venue! You have to find your own vendors (except for catering, where we choose from their preferred vendors or pay a surcharge to use another vendor). The whole process was very smooth and we had a great wedding experience at the Conservatory.
We used Shea as our day of coordinator. She did an excellent job! By the time we arrived, everything was set up perfectly and Shea has great attention to detail. I don’t know of any issues or hiccups on the day of because everything was dealt with by Shea and the rest of the catering & conservatory staff before I ever found out about it. I would definitely recommend Shea to anyone planning to get married at the...
Read moreMy advice would be to plan your day using the daily schedule before going. We went yesterday for children's day and it was great. There was many crafts and 4 great performances in the performing arts tent, from a science show, interactive music activity, the informative and entertaining Rizzos Reptiles and a fun bubble performance. We also saw a circus performance and bike stunt show. Visited many booths and received so many giveaways. We watched a live bee demo, made cupcakes, viewed a gingerbread display and cake decorating competition, visited the 4h educational center to see all the great exhibits and experienced interactive museum sights and farm and other agricultural activities . The kids went to the petting zoo's and saw the giraffes. This was all included in the admission which was $9 for adults if you got there during the early bird special. Kids were free! The kids really enjoyed feeding the animals, especially the giraffes which we had to pay a nominal fee for the food. Monster trucks could be experienced with an extra charge, but we felt there was more than enough things to do. Food is expensive in most of the vendors as fairs generally are, but the center of the fair had a place that was not only reasonably priced but the food was fresh and quantity was satisfying. We didn't go on any rides, as there was more than enough to do! The overall experience...
