Kentucky Vietnam Veterans Memorial — Attraction in Frankfort

Beautiful monument. Surrounding property is beautiful. Kids compete in cross country races on the surrounding property. This is great because it encourages questions and invites learning experiences for young minds about a critical and controversial time in America. The monument also uses a sundial to track the number of service members who paid the ultimate sacrifice over time with a key linking each death to the positions of the sundial which is quite a sight to behold and honors these brave Americans in a very unique way. Magnificently thought out memorial for the Kentucky veterans of the Vietnam War. This sun dial is spectacular in the way it individually memorializes each person throughout the day as the gnomon (pointer) shadow points to the person and time of each fallen soldier’s passing. Pick a nice sunny day to really appreciate this wonderful memorial, but if it’s overcast don’t miss it either. The area is well maintained and peaceful….as it should be....

Most unique way to honor Veterans who gave all in the calling of the nation. In a nutshell, the shadow falls on the name of the fallen on the Anniversary of their passing. It is a bit confusing to explain, but just know each Warrior has a well thought out honor highlighted by the sun.
