Big Elk Creek is one of the newer state parks. It was previously listed as a section of the nearby White Clay Creek State Park. The Springlawn Trail is the current main feature, and you can access it from the west side off Route 841 or the southside off Strickersville Road. The route 841 access has a bigger parking lot. This trail is for hiking, biking and horseback riding. Mt Olivet Road has been blocked at both ends so you can hike that too. Strickersville, the main road through the park, is rather busy for a rural road, and there's no decent lots on it except the main lot which is not right by the creek. One of the pictures shows Big Elk Creek south from the road. If you enlarge it, you can see a blue heron in the water. On the north side of the park, the DCNR map shows Bullock Road entering the park. I drove it and only found private houses right to the end. To the south, the park goes right up to the state line and becomes the Fair Hill Natural Resources Area in Maryland.
